37-Point Third Quarter Propels Warriors Over Spurs

The Golden State Warriors defeated the San Antonio Spurs 117-113 on Sunday night at Frost Bank Center.

The Warriors turned an early 13-point deficit into a 13-point lead with four minutes to go in the game, but the Spurs proved difficult to put away.

With Golden State leading 113-102, San Antonio scored nine straight straight points to make it a two-point Warriors advantage with 59 seconds remaining. But a Klay Thompson 3-pointer after a Draymond Green offensive rebound once again gave the Warriors a two-possession lead in the final minute. After two Victor Wembanyama free throws, Draymond Green iced the game in the final seconds with a free throw to give the Dubs a four-point lead.

“Draymond was incredible tonight,” Kerr said. “That was a defensive masterpiece. The offensive board at the end with the Klay three probably was the play of the game. You watch that game, Draymond is a genius defensively.”

Stephen Curry scored a game-high 33 points in the victory, while Draymond Green filled the stat sheet with 21 points, 11 assists, six rebounds and six steals.

DRAYMOND DOES IT ALL
Draymond Green's footprint was felt all over the court on Sunday. Green recorded 21 points, 11 assists, six rebounds and six steals on 88.9 percent (8-for-9) shooting, becoming the first player since Fat Lever in 1987 to record 20+ PTS, 11+ ASTS, 6+ REBS, 6+ STLs and 80+ FG%.

No point was more important than Green's game-clinching free throw with 3.9 seconds left to give the Warriors a four-point lead.

“He gave us everything,” Moses Moody said of Green’s performance. “From the defensive end, offensive end, knocked down shots, guarded Wemby, rebounded. He had a really good game.”

Green also tied Chris Mullin for the second-most games played (807) in Warriors franchise history.

THIRD QUARTER WARRIORS
The Warriors opened the second half on a 14-0 run, turning an eight-point deficit into a six-point advantage. Draymond Green scored seven of those points, including hitting a corner three. The Dubs defense held the Spurs to 0-for-8 shooting, holding the Spurs scoreless for the first 3:51 of the half.

The Warriors outscored the Spurs 37-21 in the third quarter, with Draymond Green and Stephen Curry combining for 20 points.

KLAY TIES KORVER
Klay Thompson's clutch 3-pointer in the final minute of the game was also historic, as it was the 2,450th of his career, tying Kyle Korver for sixth place on the NBA's all-time 3-pointers made list.

CUTTING THE SPURS LEAD
The Spurs took their biggest lead, a 13-point advantage, late in the first quarter. But the Dubs fought their way back into the game, going on a 13-2 run, including scoring 10 consecutive points across the end of the first frame and the beginning of the second. Chris Paul closed the quarter strong for the Warriors, hitting a jumper right before the clock expired.

MOODY OFF THE BENCH
Moses Moody made his first appearance of the game to open the second quarter, and the third-year made his impact felt early. Moody hit back-to-back 3-pointers to cut the Warriors deficit to one point.

“Moses is being exactly who we know Moses is,” Draymond Green said. “No matter when his number is called, he is always ready to go. He’s always in the gym working on his game whether he’s in the rotation or not.

“He continues to prove himself each and every time that he comes out of the rotation, when he gets back in it, he plays even better. It’s great to see Moses playing the way he’s playing. It’s helping us right now. The energy that he’s bringing, the shooting that he’s bringing, everything that he’s bringing to the floor has been positive for us and he’s helping us in a major way.”

Moody finished the game with 10 points and four rebounds in 21 minutes of action, and his +12 plus-minus was tied for the second highest on the team.

After going 4-1 on their five-game road trip, the Warriors return to Chase Center to host the Dallas Mavericks on Monday night (7 p.m.; NBCSBA, TNT).

“Fantastic trip,” Warriors Head Coach Steve Kerr said after the win. “Particularly after losing the first one in tough fashion. For the guys to bounce back, win four straight games on the road, that’s a sign of their competitiveness and grit.”
