Pre-Draft Outlook
The Sixers have the league’s second best regular-season record over the last six seasons, but are not one of the 14 different teams that have reached the conference finals over that stretch. This time, they had a 3-2 lead in the conference semis, but then lost Games 6 and 7 to the Boston Celtics, a collapse that cost Doc Rivers his job and spoiled a Kia MVP-winning season from Joel Embiid. With the 29-year-old center under contract for at least another three years, the Sixers are still in very good shape. But getting Embiid to the promised land has proven to be difficult.
The Way To Go
The Sixers have no Draft picks, a lot of free agents, and limited means to replace James Harden should he decline his player option and take his talents elsewhere. So they’re in a tough spot if they want to take that elusive step forward, though Tyrese Maxey is terrific player who’s still just 22 years old. The hope has to be that new coach Nick Nurse can find a way to get this team over the hump.
