About Romeo Weems

Weems was born June 9, 2001 in New Haven, Michigan. He attended New Haven High School, where he started all four years on the basketball team. As a freshman, he averaged 16.0 points, 10.7 rebounds, 5.1 assists, 4.0 steals and 1.8 blocks and led the team to a 22-3 record, a regional title and the state class B quarterfinals. As a sophomore, he averaged 18.1 points, 11.8 rebounds, 3.6 assists, 3.7 steals and 3.2 blocks, leading his team to a 27-1 record and a second straight regional championship. Plus, they secured a Class B state title. As a junior, he averaged 23.5 points, 10.8 rebounds, 5.3 assists, 4.8 steals and 2.0 blocks and was named All-Michigan by USA Today. As a senior, he averaged 27.9 points, 11.4 rebounds, 4.2 steals, 3.5 assists and 2.6 blocks. He was named the Associated Press Division 2 Player of the Year and Mr. Basketball of Michigan. Weems also played for the United State National Team and won the 2017 FIBA Under-16 Americas Championship. When the team won the 2018 FIBA U17 World Cup, Weems was a starter and averaged 8.6 points and 8.1 rebounds per game. He committed to playing college basketball at DePaul.

As a freshman, he was named Big East Freshman of the Week twice and secured a spot on the Big East All-Rookie Team. In 30.1 minutes per game, Weems averaged 8.0 points, 4.9 rebounds, 1.7 assists and 1.3 steals. As a sophomore, in 2020-21, he averaged 7.3 points, 5.0 rebounds and 1.3 steals in 28.9 minutes.

His collegiate career highs stood at 21 points, 11 rebounds, five assists, five steals (twice), three blocks (twice) and five threes. Arguably the best performance of his career occurred Feb. 25, 2020 against Xavier, where Weems posted 16 points (7-12 FG, 2-5 3Pt), six rebounds (three offensive), three assists and five steals in 34 minutes.
