April 23rd Game Recap: Wizards vs. Bobcats

Wizards Sail Past Bobcats

The Wizards entered the game on a three game winning streak and continued to sizzle, as they easily moved past the Bobcats, 101-73, on Monday night at Verizon Center.

For all intensive purposes, the game was over in the 2nd quarter when the Wizards opened up on a 19-6 run and took a 20 point lead over Charlotte. The Wiz led 63-39 at the half, and put it in cruise control for the second half en route to the lopsided victory.

John Wall was the best player on the court while he was out there, attaining 16 points and 14 assists before resting for the fourth quarter. It was Wall's 15th double-double of the season.

Jan Vesely did not miss from the floor, pouring in a career-high 16 points on 8-8 shooting.

Nene added a team-high 18 points off the bench in the win.

The Wizards shot 55% as a team and this win marks the first four game winning streak since December 2007.

Next, the Wizards travel to Cleveland to take on the Cavaliers on Wednesday night at Verizon Center.

Listen to Dave Johnson's Audio Highlights

On the winning streak:
“It feels good. Even though it’s the end of the season we are playing good as a team. We beat two teams that are in the playoffs and one team that’s fighting for the playoffs. We knew we had to come out and beat Charlotte because we knew what they were playing for. We had their number tonight.”

On the end of the season:
“That’s the saddest part. You play this game that you love and work because you want to be in the playoffs. We’ve got a lot to look forward to this summer and prepare ourselves for next year. If we add a couple of pieces, we know what we have on this team and what we can do when we play together.”

On the win:
“The key is we were playing together as a team and moving the ball. Different guys have been scoring every night so you don’t have the same leading scorer. It’s been great that our second group has been coming in and playing well - Cartier (Martin), James (Singleton), Shelvin (Mack), Nene. It means a lot to us.”

On the game:
“We played well and played as a team. We’re learning how to play together. It is fun to play the way we are playing right now.”

On the team’s improvement:
“A lot of young guys are developing and getting a lot of minutes. We have a lot of camaraderie. We have a lot of talent on this team. We just have to keep learning to play together. I have confidence we can continue to work hard and improve so we are ready for next season.”

On the game:
“This is another step for our team. I think we did a great job with the schedule we had leading up to this game, winning three in a row and then getting ready for this game against a struggling team. We took care of business right from the start. I was more nervous for this game than our previous games. You don’t ever want to give a struggling team the opportunity to breathe. From the start of the game we really put our best foot forward. Our bench was huge for us again and really came through for us.”

On the end of the season:
“We now have had four wins in a row for the first time in five years. I’m always sorry to see the season end. It doesn’t matter if we are playing good or bad. This is our life, but we are looking forward to the last two games.”
