Drew Gooden hit an 16 footer with 8:40 to play to give the Wizards an 83-82 lead but the Nuggets countered with a 9-1 run and the Wizards would never grab the lead again. Bench play was a huge factor, with the Nuggets bench, led by Arthur, Fournier and Vesely, outscoring the Wizards bench 52-28. Beal paced five Wizards in double figures with 21 points. Ariza finished with 18, but had just three after a 15 point first quarter which saw the Wizards lead by eight. Gortat had 16, Wall had 15 and Gooden came off the bench for 15. Faried led the Nuggets with 20 points and eight boards while Foye had 17.

After the Wizards took the lead back with 8:40 to play and appeared to have grabbed the momentum, the Nuggets, and particularly Evan Fournier, responded in a big way. The Nuggets went on a 9-1 run over the next two and a half minutes, led by two good takes by Fournier and capped by a Darell Arthur three. The Wizards would never see the lead again.
