Generation Thrive has announced the graduation of the second cohort for the Bridging The Bay, Igniting Leaders of Change, presented by Rocket Lawyer, a leadership program for 16 non-profit leaders working to attain educational equity in the Bay Area.

Bridging the Bay, Igniting Leaders of Change, presented by Rocket Lawyer, is for executive leaders at the helm of nonprofits focused on educational equity and successful academic outcomes for Bay Area youth. Throughout the 14-week program, 16 cohort participants—who collectively reach over 2 million Bay Area students—gained essential leadership skills, strengthened sector connections, and built self-care competencies, a necessary component during what has been a challenging time for educators&nbsp;in&nbsp;the Bay Area.

As part of their involvement, Rocket Lawyer is providing free group legal benefits to the 16 Bridging The Bay non-profits, as well as to the 66 Warriors Community Foundation 2022-23 grantees. Additionally, through their ‘Defend Confidently’ program throughout the 2022-23 NBA season, Rocket Lawyer donated $500 per blocked shot, amounting to a $250,000 donation to Generation Thrive.

Generation Thrive’s flagship location in Oakland, which opened in March 2022, has since engaged with over 6,500 Bay Area educators and hosted 2,800 of those educators in-person, totaling over 350 hours of free development sessions. The addition of the San Francisco Generation Thrive location, located in Thrive City, the district surrounding Chase Center, has provided additional opportunities for Bay Area educators and non-profit leaders to use the free space for access to professional development and health and wellbeing resources.

Developed in partnership with Kaiser Permanente, Generation Thrive is a&nbsp;first-of-its-kind non-profit hub that supports the effectiveness of non-profits and schools, and activates at the intersection of education, wellness, and skill-building for Bay Area teachers and educators. Generation Thrive Announces Completion of Second Bridging the Bay Cohort

Warriors Community Foundation To Grant Over $2.4 Million To 66 Bay Area Non-Profits, Bringing Total Impact To Over $30 Million Since Inception

The Warriors Community Foundation, embarking on its 10th Anniversary, has announced the grand opening of the San Francisco Generation Thrive location. In partnership with Kaiser Permanente,&nbsp;Generation Thrive, a first-of-its-kind non-profit hub, works to uplift the at-risk educational community and focus support efforts in three main areas: educational equity, college and career readiness, and health and wellness.

“In the first seven months of in-person programming, Generation Thrive’s flagship Oakland location has quickly established itself as the leader in educator support,” said Warriors Community Foundation President of the Board, Nicole Lacob. “We have offered over 70 teacher trainings, over 75 hours of non-profit capacity building sessions, and over 40 hours of health and resilience training. In a time where educators and teachers need more support than ever before, we are so thankful to lock arms with Kaiser Permanente as we expand the Generation Thrive footprint to Thrive City in San Francisco.”

Generation Thrive’s flagship location in Oakland, which opened in March 2022, has since engaged with over 4,100 Bay Area educators and hosted 2,300 of those educators in-person, totaling over 180 hours of free development sessions. The addition of the San Francisco Generation Thrive location, located in Thrive City, the district surrounding Chase Center, will add additional opportunities for Bay Area educators and non-profit leaders to use the free space for access to professional development and health and wellbeing resources.

Additionally, to celebrate its 10th&nbsp;Anniversary, the Warriors Community Foundation has announced an all-time single-year high of $2.42 million in grants,&nbsp;which tops last year’s record of $1.85 million as the most-ever awarded by the Foundation. The Warriors Community Foundation has now surpassed $30 million in impact to support education and youth development in the Bay Area since&nbsp;the Foundation’s inception in 2012.

66 Bay Area non-profits, including annual flagship grants to the Oakland Unified School District and San Francisco Unified School District, make up this year’s grantee roster.

Over the last few days,&nbsp;Warriors guard Stephen Curry and Head Coach Steve Kerr&nbsp;made personal calls to various recipients to inform them of the grant selection.

Tonight, the Warriors will celebrate this year’s grant recipients with an on-court check presentation. Nicole Lacob will join Warriors President & Chief Operating Officer Brandon Schneider,&nbsp;Dr. Matt Wayne, Superintendent of San Francisco Unified School District, Sondra Aguilera, Acting Superintendent of Oakland Unified School District,&nbsp;and various members of the Warriors Community Foundation Board for the presentation.

The grants will support a range of programs and organizations, including investments in early childhood development, elementary literacy, middle schools, STEM, and college access and persistence.&nbsp;In total, grants will be made to 24 organizations that operate in Alameda County, 16 that serve San Francisco County, and 25 that offer programming in both areas.

The Golden State Warriors, in partnership with Kaiser Permanente, held the grand opening of Generation Thrive at the Warriors’ Oakland Facility earlier today. Generation Thrive, a first-of-its-kind non-profit hub, works to uplift the at-risk educational community and focus support efforts in three main areas: educational equity, college and career readiness, and health and wellness.

Warriors President and Chief Operating Officer Brandon Schneider, Warriors Community Foundation President of the Board Nicole Lacob and Warriors players Juan Toscano-Anderson and Jonathan Kuminga joined Kaiser Permanente Northern California President Carrie Owen Plietz, along with Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf and Oakland Unified School District Superintendent Kyla Johnson-Trammell at Generation Thrive in Oakland to make today’s announcement.

“Generation Thrive initially launched virtual programming at the start of the pandemic, addressing the urgent needs of educators and our community, amidst the most devastating economic and social crisis of our time,” said Warriors Community Foundation President of the Board, Nicole Lacob. “We are beyond thrilled to finally host a grand opening for in-person programming at the Generation Thrive headquarters in Oakland. As a former educator, I am all too familiar with the on-going challenges of teaching. I am ecstatic that we are able to support educators, teachers and non-profits that serve students and shape the next generation of young minds.”

The organizations participating in Generation Thrive will provide learning, enrichment, health promotion and wellness opportunities to Bay Area youth, including educational and career support to help increase and diversify workers in S.T.E.M and health care.

Located at 1011 Broadway in downtown Oakland, Generation Thrive underwent a construction process that included renovation of the kitchen to an open concept to promote collaboration, upgraded conference rooms and workspaces, and technology to aid in providing resources for non-profits. Construction was completed by Abayla Contracting Services, with architecture and interior design by Arcsine.

“Kaiser Permanente is committed to creating communities where people can be healthy in all the places they live, learn, work, and play,” said Kaiser Permanente’s Northern California President Carrie Owen Plietz. “The COVID-19 pandemic presents so many challenges to youth, particularly in underserved communities. With Generation Thrive’s programs, Kaiser Permanente and the Golden State Warriors will provide educators and students with needed support and resources to help us build resilient and healthy communities.”

The 20-year partnership represents a commitment to make a transformational impact on a generation of youth. This also expands the long-term relationship between the Golden State Warriors and Kaiser Permanente, one of America’s leading health care providers and not-for-profit health plans, both with proud legacies of empowering youth and supporting Bay Area communities. Their mutual goal is to help find solutions to the persistent educational and achievement gap among youth in the Bay Area. For instance, while California’s overall high school graduation rates have increased significantly in recent years to an average of 81 percent, graduation rates for Black and Latino students continue to lag in the Bay Area. These two organizations recognize that by working together they can help school districts close this gap.

The Golden State Warriors, in partnership with Kaiser Permanente, today announced Generation Thrive virtual programming offerings for educators in the Bay Area. Originally announced in February 2019, Generation Thrive is a first-of-its-kind non-profit hub that supports the effectiveness of Bay Area non-profits and schools through education and wellness support. Once gathering in person is safe, Warriors Community Foundation grantees and Kaiser Permanente-selected non-profits can utilize Generation Thrive out of the Warriors’ Oakland Facility space.

“Generation Thrive virtual programming comes at an incredibly critical time for our country and, more specifically, our Bay Area community,” said Warriors Community Foundation Board President, Nicole Lacob. “Now is the time to act on investment in education, and the non-profits that support educators. As a former high school teacher, I could not be more proud with the offerings now available through Generation Thrive in a virtual setting, and look forward to convening as a group when it is safe to return in person.”

Starting Tuesday, November 10, Generation Thrive will launch three virtual programming tracks: Educator and Teacher Support, Non-Profit Support and Capacity Building, and Mental Health and Resilience.

Educator and Teacher Support:  The Educator and Teacher Support Track is geared toward Oakland Unified School District and San Francisco Unified School District educators. The track will explore themes including:

Non-Profit Support and Capacity Building: The Non-Profit Support and Capacity Building track will address three central issues as non-profits pivot operations during and after the COVID-19 era. These issues include Rebuilding Fundraising Platforms, Results-Based Accountability Trainings and Overall Development of Non-Profit Entry/Middle-Level Staff.

Mental Health and Resilience: Generation Thrive virtual programming will address the mental and physical challenges presented to society while navigating the pandemic. The Mental Health and Resilience track was developed in conjunction with Kaiser Permanente medical professionals, and will be free to the community.

“Generation Thrive's focus on supporting our educators could not be more important than at this time of shifting practices under challenging circumstances,” said Oakland Unified School District Superintendent Kyla Johnson-Trammell. “The virtual learning series for our teachers will provide relevant training and a great opportunity for our teachers to engage with their colleagues in Oakland and San Francisco. Warriors and Kaiser Permanente Team Up to Launch Generation Thrive

The Warriors Community Foundation and Kaiser Permanente today announced a partnership to create Generation Thrive, an innovative initiative that aims to lift up at-risk youth in the community. Generation Thrive, which will be headquartered out of the Warriors current practice facility in Oakland, will focus efforts in three key areas: educational equity, college and career readiness, and health and wellness.

The Warriors current headquarters in Oakland will also serve as the home base to Warriors youth basketball and community programming. Starting in early 2020, Warriors youth basketball will be expanding their programming beyond their basketball camps to reach additional youth in the Bay Area utilizing the current practice facility as their headquarters. Since its inception in the summer of 2000, Warriors Basketball Camp, the largest youth basketball camp program in the NBA, has grown to host over 55,000 youth from across the United States in hundreds of sessions in 27 cities around the Bay Area, plus a camp in Oahu, Hawaii. Warriors community programming, which holds around 200 events a year throughout the Bay Area, will also have the opportunity to host additional events within the Warriors current headquarters.

School districts can’t do this alone and by working together the two organizations seek to close this gap.

Kaiser Permanente is contributing an initial investment of $5 million to build off the Warriors Community Foundation’s previous grants of over $10 million since inception in 2012. At launch, Generation Thrive’s innovative incubator will expand and scale the impact of nonprofits that are making a difference in the lives of underserved youth in our Bay Area communities. This accelerator will provide a creative convening place for collaboration, coordination, networking, services, and a host of future program opportunities in Oakland at the current Warriors front office space and San Francisco at Chase Center.

“Today’s youth are exposed to a variety of negative factors making them more at-risk to injury, academic failure, and poor health,” said Liang. “As the Warriors move to a new arena, we’re grateful that they brought this opportunity to us to answer such an important need. This initiative, headquartered in Oakland, will make sure vulnerable Bay Area youth have the opportunities they need to be successful and healthy.”

“We recognize a strong need in our Bay Area communities to support underserved youth to help them toward a path of success,” said Nicole Lacob. “The Warriors and Kaiser Permanente are coming together with a mutual goal: to help bridge the opportunity gap for Bay Area at-risk youth, through programming and support that will help lift up young people in our community.”

Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf and San Francisco Mayor London Breed both committed to collaborating with the Warriors and Kaiser Permanente.
