Warriors Announce 2024 Black History Month Celebrations

Activations Scheduled Throughout February To Highlight, Honor And Celebrate Black History With Excellence

The Golden State Warriors today announced celebrations for Black History Month, which includes a variety of activations aimed to celebrate legacy, inspire change, strengthen the future, and empower voices through community impact.

Definition Series: Black Empowerment

Throughout the month of February, Golden State will celebrate Black History Month during Warriors home games through a variety of in-arena performances and activations. During select home games, an upstanding community member will be honored for their work and contributions to the local Black community as an Impact Warrior, presented by Pritchard Sports and Entertainment Group (PSEG). Additionally, the Warriors will host community groups that celebrate legacy, inspire change, strengthen the future, and empower voices. The groups will participate in a game-day experience including pregame shoot around access and a feature on Chase Center’s center-hung.

Additional upcoming Black History Month activations include:

  • February 3: Moffett Airfield Visit and Resiliency Chalk Talk, presented by Rocket Lawyer – During Drill Weekend, Air National Guard service members will be invited to participate in a chalk talk with Warriors legend Adonal Foyle about Black History Month and their experiences of resiliency. Additionally, Foyle will tour the base, meet servicemembers, and learn about the behind-the-scenes processes of the branch. 
  • February 8: Swishes for Dishes Volunteer Event, presented by Kaiser Permanente – Warriors volunteers will help assemble nutritional snack bags at Thrive City to distribute to a local community organization through Second Harvest of Silicon Valley. 
  • February 15: Burckhalter Elementary School Read to Achieve Read-In, presented by Ross Stores – Warriors and Ross Stores volunteers will spend the day at Burckhalter Elementary School reading literary works from Black authors to emphasize the importance of literacy within the Black community.
  • February 19: Thrive City Black History Month Celebration, presented by Waymo – The Warriors and Waymo will host a Black History Month Celebration at Thrive City highlighting Black entertainment, arts and food. The event will feature the Black History 101 Mobile Museum, a traveling exhibition of Black History, an appearance from Warriors legend Festus Ezeli, and a special performance by Golden State Entertainment's Rhymefest.  
  • February 20: Minds Right – On February 20, Generation Thrive, in collaboration with Golden State Entertainment and Dope Era, will launch Minds Right, a celebration aimed to increase the retention of male educators of color in Oakland and San Francisco public schools. The event will showcase the healing power of music, fostering connection, support, and understanding among educators in the Bay Area.
  • February 23: Booker T. Washington Community Service Center Game Day Experience, presented by Ticketmaster – The Warriors and Ticketmaster will host Booker T. Washington Community Service Center for a game day experience inclusive of tickets, gifts and transportation to the game when the Warriors take on the Charlotte Hornets. 
  • February 25: Warriors Basketball Academy Clinic, presented by Chevron – Twenty-five youth from Richmond Promise will be invited to participate in a Warriors Basketball Academy clinic at the Warriors’ Oakland Facility. The focus of this clinic will be the intersection of STEM and basketball with a special appearance from Warriors legend Chris Mullin.
  • February 28: George Washington Carver Elementary School Read to Achieve Read-In, presented by Ross Stores – Warriors and Ross Stores volunteers will spend the day at George Washington Carver Elementary School reading literary works from Black authors to emphasize the importance of literacy within the Black community.
