Tim Roye's Game Recap

Keith Smart
On the team's second half defense:
“We made a switch, we made a big switch. When I was at home today I was thinking in the second half how can I get Dorell (Wright) on the ball and use his length and give a different look. I knew watching the last two games that Coach Saunders was going to look at isolating (John) Wall in the middle of the floor. I didn’t want to show it in the first half I wanted to keep it there close to the vest, and then use it in the second half. I thought Dorell (Wright) did a good job, but I also thought the other big guys when they started to go back to the pick-and-roll action did a good job being up and showing themselves. I thought the guys made some big plays. I though Ekpe (Udoh) made some big plays at the rim, blocking shots. This team in Washington has a lot of young players, high energy, missing a lot of pieces, but they play teams close…good teams. “

On Monta Ellis:
“I think this young man is committed to turning this franchise around. I really believe that he is doing everything he can to put us in the right position with his play… to move us in the right direction. He always texts me and says, ‘Coach I’ll be ready to go, you don’t have to take me out.’ I don’t want to play him those kind of minutes, but I think he’s trying to set a tone for his team that ‘I’ve been through it already’ where you close the season out and you stop playing and I think he’s saying I’m going to go out and compete at a high level until this thing is over and then we’ll start to get our offseason ready for what he wants to do and what the team wants to do.”

Monta Ellis Post-Game Interview

On Setting The Tone:
“Really just take what the defense is giving us. We have the open lanes and wide open shooters. So we just have to find them and in the last few games we have done that.”

On Wearing The Wizards Down:
“We were trying to wear them down in the first five minutes of the game but it didn’t go that way. So we had to adjust in the second half and we stepped it up when we needed to and came out with the win.”

On Why It’s Important Closing The Season Strong:
“Its our job. Our season is not over with. We have eight more games left and see how many games we can go out there and win.”

David Lee
On the team's defense in the second half:
“I think they hit some tough outside shots in the first half. (Maurice) Evans hit a few, (Jordan) Crawford hit a few, Nick Young hit a few. They shot the ball well. (JaVale) McGee was effective, I think he wore down in the second half a little bit but we just tried to keep doing what we were doing and keep the pace up. I think we wore them down as the game went on.”

On JaVale McGee:
“He dunked on me on that tip dunk in the first half and hung on the rim a little bit ala Richard Jefferson. He’s a good guy. I told him I promise I will get you back for that. So finally when I got him back I ran after him a little bit and told him I got him back. I tell you what; (JaVale) McGee is heck of a player. He’s still young, a little raw and when he figures it out I think he’s just as athletic as anybody in the league. He deserves a lot of credit and played a great game.”
