Stephen Curry Named Kia NBA Western Conference Player of the Month

Reigning MVP Wins Fourth Career Monthly Award as Warriors Set NBA Record for Best Start to a Season

Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry has been named the Kia NBA Western Conference Player of the Month for games played in October/November, the NBA announced today. The reigning MVP led the defending champs to a perfect 19-0 start in the season’s opening month by averaging a league-leading 31.6 points to go with 6.0 assists, 5.2 rebounds and 2.53 steals (second) in 34.4 minutes. Curry, who last won the award in October/November to open the 2014-15 campaign, earned his fourth career monthly honor, giving him more Player of the Month Awards than all other players in Warriors history combined.

Curry shot 51.2 percent from the field and 44.5 percent from three in October/November, breaking his own NBA record for three-point field goals in a single month with 77 in November, and led the league by hitting 94.1 percent from the free throw line. Curry’s month was highlighted by an NBA season-high 53-point performance on Oct. 31 at New Orleans that included a career-best quarter of 28 points, one of his four 20-point quarters during the month. Curry led all players with 10 30-point games and tied for a league-best with five 40-point performances. Following a 3-0 October, the Warriors swept the November slate (16-0), giving the team its first undefeated full calendar month in franchise history. Golden State’s 16 wins in November tied the franchise-mark for wins in a month set in March 2015.

In addition to setting the NBA-record for best start to a season (now 20-0), the Warriors have won 24-straight regular-season games dating back to the 2014-15 campaign, giving them the third-longest winning streak in NBA history behind only the 1971-72 Los Angeles Lakers (33-0) and 2012-13 Miami Heat (27-0). The Warriors have won a franchise-best 28 consecutive regular-season home games and have matched a franchise-record with their current 10-game road win streak.

In addition to Curry, only Chris Mullin (January 1989 & November 1990) and Bernard King (January 1981) have earned the monthly honor for the Warriors since the NBA began giving out the award in 1979. Indiana’s Paul George earned Player of the Month accolades for the Eastern Conference.
