Read to Achieve presented by Ross Stores is an early literacy program conducted in partnership with Reading Partners and local public libraries. Exciting literacy activities and experiences offered year-round help young Bay Area students develop a love for reading.

The goals of Read to Achieve are twofold:

Improve 3rd grade reading proficiency. Third grade reading scores are highly correlated with later academic success. Third grade marks the transition from "learning to read" to "reading to learn" and research indicates that reading proficiency in third grade is predictive of whether or not a student will graduate from high school.

Combat summer learning loss. Summer learning loss is one of the most significant causes of a widening achievement gap between low and high-income youth. On average, low-income students lose two months of reading skills over the summer and begin the school year behind their higher-income peers.

Every day, thousands of volunteer reading partners make a lifelong difference for kids who struggle with reading.

More than simply reading with a child, our volunteers follow a proven, structured curriculum to help students learn specific skills necessary to become proficient readers. It’s simple, and it works. Each lesson comes with step-by-step instructions and materials. A trained site coordinator is always available to answer questions, assist with the materials, and solve problems.
