Golden State Warriors Forward David Lee will donate $250 for every Warriors win during the 2012-13 NBA season to the charity Us Against Cancer, the team announced today. David Lee’s best friend and high school classmate at Chaminade College Prep in St. Louis, Mike Bommarito, is a two-time cancer survivor and co-founder and chairman of Us Against Cancer. Lee will host Bommarito during tonight’s Warriors’ game against the Dallas Mavericks.

“I’m really happy to support my best friend Mike Bommarito and Us Against Cancer to further cancer research and to help those dealing with the disease,” said Lee. “By donating for every Warriors win, it is a good way for us to contribute to a great cause.”

Founded in early 2011, Us Against Cancer is a 501(c)(3) public charity that is committed to raising funds to support cancer research. Us Against Cancer has elected to direct its funds to the Siteman Cancer Center, a leader in cancer treatment, research, prevention, education and community outreach in the greater St. Louis area. Proceeds will also benefit the Director’s Fund, which allows Siteman Cancer Center Director Dr. Timothy J. Eberlein to respond quickly to new technologies and targeted therapies.

“David is a very influential individual obviously, being an NBA player, but I believe even if he wasn’t in this position he would do the exact same thing,” said Bommarito. “With his connections and being a part of the Golden State Warriors, it means so much to me, and really it will help a lot of lives.”
