Glad to Give Honoree: JoAnn Edwards
Executive Director, Museum of Craft and Design
JoAnn’s Glad to Give Statement
I'm #GladToGive by gathering our communities to provide MCD MakeArt hands-on, experiential workshops where kids can discover their own creativity.
JoAnn Edwards, Executive Director, has overseen the Museum of Craft and Design’s vision and growth since its founding in downtown San Francisco in 2003 to its relocation and acclaimed 2013 grand reopening in San Francisco’s historic Dogpatch district.
Through the development of highly celebrated and innovative exhibitions and MakeArt educational programs, the Museum of Craft and Design has grown under Edwards’ leadership into an internationally recognized cultural institution that extends the institutional mission beyond its brick and mortar space.
Why she is a Glad to Give Honoree
MCD MakeArt was launched in 2006 at the Museum of Craft and Design by Cofounder and Executive Director, JoAnn Edwards to provide a safe place for children and families to participate in art-making activities. MakeArt takes place within the Museum, but more often in local communities at libraries, schools, local fairs, etc. providing opportunities for kids to make cool stuff, feel good about themselves and learn through making.
