On Wednesday August 14th, the vision John Amaechi had of creating a haven for youth in the UK will come to life when he opens the Amaechi Basketball Centre. Newly constructed on the site of Whalley Range High School in Manchester this state-of-the-art athletic complex is part of Amaechiís continuing commitment to youth in the community.

The Amaechi Basketball Centre (ABC) will be under the direction of The Greater Manchester Community Basketball and Sports Association, a nonprofit organization operating entirely for the benefit of its members. Conceived of and solely financed by Amaechi, the $4 million facility will provide both mentoring resources and athletic programs specifically geared towards adolescents. Amenities for the Amaechi Basketball Centre include three International-sized basketball courts with sprung wooden floors, an aerobics studio, fitness suite, physiotherapy services, and a smart bar with in-house conference facilities. The Centre will also offer courses for referees, coaches, and table officials and visitors of all ages are welcome.
