Kevin Love Named to All-Rookie Second Team

Minnesota Timberwolves forward Kevin Love has been named to the 2008-09 T-Mobile NBA All-Rookie Team, the National Basketball Association announced earlier today. Love was named to the Second Team after averaging a rookie-leading 9.1 rebounds and 11.1 points per game this season.

The T-Mobile NBA All-Rookie Teams were selected by a voting panel consisting of the NBA's 30 head coaches, who were asked to choose five players for the first team and five players for the second team, regardless of position. Coaches were not permitted to vote for players on their own team. Two points were awarded for first team votes and one for second team votes.

Love, the fifth overall pick of the 2008 NBA Draft, played in 81 games for the Wolves, including 31 starts. In additions to his scoring and rebounding totals, Love also posted 29 double-doubles, most among NBA rookies this season and the most by a Timberwolves rookie in franchise history. Despite averaging just 25.3 minutes per games, Love ranked third in the league in total offensive rebounds (274) behind only Dwight Howard (336) and Emeka Okafor (275). He also ranked first and second in the league in offensive rebound % and total rebound %, respectively, becoming the first rookie to lead the league in the former category since Hakeem Olaujuwon in 1984-85.

The Western Conference Rookie of the Month for March, Love joins Felton Spencer, Kevin Garnett and Craig Smith as Timberwolves rookies to earn second team honors. Pooh Richardson, Christian Laettner, Isaiah Rider, Stephon Marbury, Wally Szczerbiak and Randy Foye all earned first team honors during their rookie seasons in Minnesota.
