Oklahoma City, Monday, June 16, 2014 – The Oklahoma City Thunder will host open auditions for the 2014-15 Thunder Girls dance team on Saturday, Aug. 2, at the Thunder Community Events Center in Edmond. Auditions will begin at 9 a.m. and are open to participants only.
The final round of auditions will be held in front of a live audience on Thursday, Aug. 7, at Riverwind Casino in Norman, starting at 7 p.m. Admission to the final auditions is free of charge.
The Thunder Girls, presented by Riverwind Casino, perform at all home games and serve as community ambassadors for the Thunder. The dance team makes over 200 appearances throughout the region every season and has represented the Thunder and the NBA on seven international tours, including visits to London; Shanghai; Tokyo; Kunming, China; Istanbul and Manchester, England.
Preregistration for the Aug. 2 open auditions is now open to women 18 or older online at THUNDER.NBA.COM. For those who preregister, the registration fee is $25; for participants who sign up on the day of auditions, the registration fee will be $40.
Women who would like to audition are encouraged to take part in Thunder Girls prep classes, which are offered throughout June and July. Prep classes offer insight into the auditions process and instruction in some of the team’s dance routines. The first prep class will be held Wednesday, June 18, from 7-8:30 p.m. at the Thunder Community Events Center. Each class costs $15 for participants.
On average, over 100 applicants audition annually for a spot on the team. Current Thunder Girls wishing to stay on the dance team are required to re-audition.
