SUNS RE-SIGN JOSH OKOGIE

PHOENIX – The Phoenix Suns today announced that the team has re-signed free agent guard/forward Josh Okogie.

“Josh plays with relentless energy,” said Phoenix Suns President of Basketball Operations and General Manager James Jones. “His grit, intensity and athleticism are vital to the success of our team. He consistently makes winning plays on both ends of the floor. He is truly unique.”

In his first season with the Suns in 2022-23, Okogie won the team’s Majerle Hustle Award, presented at the end of each regular season to the Suns player who most personified hustle, grit and determination. The 6’-4”, 213-pound guard/forward averaged 11.5 points on 37.3% three-point shooting, 4.3 rebounds and 1.2 steals over the season’s final 26 games following the trade deadline. Okogie played in 72 games overall and was one of only two guards in the league to total over 100 offensive rebounds and 30 blocked shots in 2022-23, becoming the first Suns guard to do so in a season since Dan Majerle in 1993-94.

A five-year NBA veteran, Okogie holds career averages of 6.6 points and 3.0 rebounds in 316 games with the Suns and Minnesota Timberwolves. The 24-year-old has 81 career games scoring in double figures and 73 career games with multiple steals. He played for Team World at the NBA Rising Stars game as part of NBA All-Star both in 2019 in Charlotte and in 2020 in Chicago.

Okogie entered the NBA as the 20th overall pick by the Timberwolves in the 2018 NBA Draft following two collegiate seasons at Georgia Tech. Born in Lagos, Nigeria, Okogie has competed for the Nigerian national team in international competition including at the 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup and the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
