“El Valle Puede” Scholarships 

Our goal this season is to identify high school seniors with Latino heritage that Helios Education Foundation & Phoenix Suns/Phoenix Mercury Foundation may interview by end of March 2024. We would like to receive applications to include personal statements, videos and transcripts to help us understand applicant’s background and challenges when we deliberate and make our final selections. Application must be completed by 11:59 pm March 1, 2024. 

General Criteria 

The “El Valle Puede” Scholarship Program in partnership with Helios Education Foundation supports Arizona high school seniors with financial need attending an accredited post-secondary institution and pursuing any field of study. Students must be enrolled full-time in an accredited Arizona university. Student eligibility criteria for the scholarships are: 

  • Must be of Latino heritage 
  • Graduating high school senior from an Arizona public high school 
  • Have and maintain a 2.5 or higher cumulative academic GPA 
  • Demonstrate financial need as determined by Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or the Federal Student Aid Estimator (if undocumented).
  • Student Pell Grant Eligible 
  • Have been accepted into, or expect to be accepted into, an accredited Arizona public university. 
  • A well-rounded student achieved through any of the following: sports, leadership, and volunteerism, etc. (basketball connection is preferred) 

Award Amounts

Students who apply will be eligible to receive one of two scholarships.

Award amount of up to $12,500 per year based on Arizona Board of Regents (ABOR’s) in-state tuition rate or remaining cost of attendance (lesser of the two). Funds may be used for tuition, fees, books or other educational expenses. Scholarships are renewable for up to three additional years of study if students are in good standing and maintain the required GPA.  
 
Award amount of up to $2,500 per year based on tuition rates at an in-state community college. Scholarships are renewable for one additional year. Funds may be used for tuition, fees, books or other educational expenses.
