The Dallas Mavericks defeated the Phoenix Suns 88-77 in the Las Vegas Summer League at Thomas & Mack Center on Sunday.
After winning the Orlando Summer League, Dallas (2-0) is now making a mark in the Las Vegas Summer League with yet another victory over Phoenix (1-1). This was a dominating performance for the Mavericks, as they led by at least eight points for the final three quarters in their wire-to-wire victory. Defense was key for Dallas, as they recorded 17 steals, while forcing 25 turnovers and just a 36 percent field goal percentage from Phoenix.
Rookie Josh Jackson played well for the Suns, finishing with 15 points, nine rebounds, two assists and two steals. Mike James finished with 19 points, seven rebounds, two assists and two steals on 7-of-9 shooting. Davon Reed led the bench with 11 points and eight rebounds.
Dennis Smith Jr. was the player of the game for Dallas, as he accumulated 25 points, eight rebounds, four assists and four steals. Brandon Ashley was the only other Maverick in double figures, as he totaled 12 points and two rebounds. Yogi Ferrell provided eight points, two rebounds, three assists and five steals as the starting point guard.
Phoenix will return to action on Monday against the Houston Rockets, while the Mavericks will play the Miami Heat on Tuesday for their next contest.
