Spurs Name James Borrego Assistant Coach

SAN ANTONIO (June 17, 2015) – The San Antonio Spurs today announced that they have named James Borrego assistant coach. Borrego returns to San Antonio after spending seven seasons with the organization from 2003-10. Borrego began as an assistant video coordinator with the Spurs in the summer of 2003 and finished his tenure as an assistant coach. He was on staff for two championships with the Silver and Black in 2005 and 2007. Most recently, Borrego served as the interim head coach for the Orlando Magic during the 2014-15 season. Prior to, he served as an assistant coach in Orlando beginning in 2012. Before joining the Magic, Borrego was an assistant for the New Orleans Pelicans from 2010-12. The Albuquerque, N.M. native played collegiately at the University of San Diego from 1998-2001. He then began his coaching career at his alma mater, serving as an assistant from 2001-03. Borrego returns to San Antonio along with his wife, Megan, his daughter, Grace, and two sons, Zachary and Nicholas.
