Silver & Black Give Back Awards $50K In Facility Grants
October 2, 2014
Silver & Black Give Back announced today the 2014 Facilities Grant winners, who will receive a combined $50,000 to aid programs that provide San Antonio-area students with safe places to develop through teamwork and competition. The three nonprofits set to benefit from the donations are The Arc of San Antonio, Ella Austin Community Center and Karma Teens Empowered.
The Arc of San Antonio, a nonprofit organization dedicated to assisting people with developmental disabilities, has been awarded $15,000 from Silver & Black Give Back. The grant will fund a shade structure over The Arc’s outdoor pool for clients who are very sensitive to direct sunlight. The pool is also used for other organizations that serve special needs individuals.
Ella Austin Community Center will receive $15,000 toward a new HVAC system in the gym. EACC strives to improve the quality of life and self-sufficiency of families and individuals in the AT&T Center neighborhood, and youth programs are currently held in the gym in the mornings only due to health concerns from heat during peak hours.
Karma Teens Empowered, also referred to as Brooks Inner-City Sports, has been granted $20,000 to completely renovate its gym which has been operating Spurs Youth Basketball League programming for over a decade. Updates will include roof repairs, replacing wooden backboards with glass collegiate backboards, installing bleachers to replace folding chairs and bringing in water coolers and trash cans for the facility.
Each organization is a Silver & Black Give Back partner. The Arc of San Antonio was a 2012 Summer Team Up Challenge Champion and Ella Austin Community Center was a 2012 Summer Team Up Challenge semifinalist, while Karma Teens Empowered is a Spurs Youth Basketball League site.
