Lawrence Payne is in his 44th season with Spurs Sports & Entertainment and is the longest tenured full-time employee within the organization. In his new role as strategic advisor Payne continues to assist the organization’s corporate partnerships sales efforts, including radio and TV inventory, digital platforms, social media, signage, in-arena and out-of-arena promotions and licensing, and game operations.

Under Payne’s direction, SS&E has built one of the highest rated and most extensive broadcast and digital lineups in professional sports. He has served as executive producer and/or producer of SS&E broadcasts and programming for all franchises and has been involved in all aspects of the organization’s entertainment and media assets from media rights negotiation to the look of the content. Payne has been the lead negotiator on all broadcast and major rights agreements for the organization.

Payne has won two national Cable ACE Awards, the Silver Medal at the International Film & Television Festival of New York, and several local Addy Awards, and was selected as a charter member of the NBA Broadcast Advisory Board.

Payne is a member of the University of Texas Law School Non-Practicing Advisory Council and serves as a mentor to University of Texas Law School students. He’s a member of Baylor University’s Sports Sponsorship & Sales (S3) Advisory Board and is guest lecturer at Trinity University, University of Texas at Austin and UTSA.

Payne joined the franchise after receiving his undergraduate and law degrees from the University of Texas at Austin. He has been married to Mary, a fellow UT graduate, for 40 years. They have two sons, Bryan – Vice President/Investment Development of Turn/River Capital in San Francisco, and William – a graduate of UT Austin who lives and works as a writer/producer in Los Angeles.
