Beginning his sixth season in San Antonio as an assistant coach, seven-year NBA veteran and former Spur, Ime Udoka, was named to the All-NBA D-League First Team in 2004 and before receiving the league’s Jason Collier Sportsmanship Award in 2006. His time with the Spurs has included two summers as head coach of the Spurs Las Vegas Summer League squad in 2013 and 2014.
From Portland, Oregon, he tipped off his college career at Utah State University Eastern before spending a year at the University of San Francisco and finishing at Portland State University. He then spent time in the NBA Development League and played internationally in both Spain and France. After transitioning to the NBA, he suited up for the Los Angeles Lakers, the New York Knicks, the Portland Trail Blazers, and the Sacramento Kings before eventually spending three seasons as a Spur from 2007 to 2009 and their 2010–11 campaign.
Being that his late father was born in Nigeria of Ibibio descent, he’s also played for the Nigerian National Team in multiple tournaments including the 2005 African Championship, the 2006 FIBA World Championship, and the 2011 African Championship where he helped lead Nigeria to a bronze medal.
