SAN ANTONIO, November 5, 2009 – The San Antonio Spurs Foundation announced today that its Board of Directors has granted $75,000 to nine local non-profit organizations in San Antonio.
The Foundation awarded grants to local organizations that enhance the lives of San Antonio youth through outreach, mentorship and education. Local organizations that received grants for the 2009-10 season are: Family Violence Prevention Services Inc., San Antonio Council on Alcohol and Drug Abuse, Big Brothers Big Sisters of San Antonio, Respite Care of San Antonio, Palmer Drug Abuse Program, San Antonio Food Bank, Young Women’s Christian Association, San Antonio Lighthouse for the Blind and St. Peter-St. Joseph Children’s Home.
Through these grants, the Spurs Foundation is taking an active role in making a direct impact in the lives of local children in need through educational and recreational programs and activities. From drug prevention programs to character development these organizations provide children in need a safe and positive place to grow and learn.
The Spurs Foundation was founded in 1988 by the San Antonio Spurs to support physically, emotionally, and economically underserved youth. Since its formation, the foundation has donated more than $13 million to area youth.
