A member of the Sonics organization since 1998-99, Walt Rock was promoted to his current position of assistant coach/director of video scouting on August 1, 2005.
Rock joined the Sonics as video coordinator. In that position, Rock was responsible for the recording and editing of all videotapes of Sonics games, opponents' games and hundreds of collegiate games. The videos are used for evaluating Sonics performances, scouting upcoming opponents and assessing collegiate talent. Rock added special assignments coach to his duties in 2002-03.
Walt is a 1983 graduate of Southwestern College in Phoenix, where he received a degree in Christian Education. While at Southwestern, Rock was a four-year starter on the basketball team and was elected by his team as captain for his junior and senior seasons.
In 1988, Walt became an assistant basketball coach at Grand Canyon University and later spent four seasons with the Phoenix Suns as an assistant video coordinator.
Born Feb. 16, 1961, Walt and his wife Michele are the parents of Byron and Eric.
