The 76ers (3-2) can eliminate the Boston Celtics (2-3) from the NBA playoffs on Thursday night in South Philadelphia and advance to the Eastern Conference Finals for the first time since 2001. Game 6 is slated for 7:30 p.m. ET on ESPN and 97.5 The Fanatic.

The Sixers defeated the Celtics, 115-103, in Game 5 on Tuesday night in Boston. It was a statement road victory for the Sixers, and their second consecutive win in the series.

Tobias Harris (16 points, 11 rebounds) said the Sixers were locked in from shootaround through the final buzzer:

“We made the game simple [Tuesday]. Everyone chipped in with great effort.”

MVP Joel Embiid (33 points)—named to the Kia All-NBA First Team for the first time in his career on Wednesday—recorded his third straight 30-point game. He also blocked four shots, including one on quite the hustle play late in the game when he turned the ball over but chased down Boston’s Jaylen Brown.

“I’m going to give a shoutout to the big fella, Joel,” Tyrese Maxey (30 points, 6-12 3fg) said. “This year, as soon as we got to Charleston for training camp, I just noticed his leadership grow. When your best player is adamant about winning and leading by example, you have to raise your level of intensity.”

Embiid helped set the tone by scoring 21 of his 33 points (3-7 3fg) in the first half.

On a night when everything seemed to be working for a Sixers team showing great preparation and poise, James Harden (17 points, eight rebounds, 10 assists) came up just two rebounds shy of a playoff triple-double.

“I thought James was a magician tonight,” 76ers Head Coach Doc Rivers said of Harden. “He called a perfect game. He was aggressive early on, when he needed to be aggressive. And then he got everybody else involved.”

The NBA announced Wednesday afternoon that 76ers Harden and Maxey are two of the 10 nominees for the 2022-23 Bob Lanier Community Assist Award.

Game 7, if necessary, would be played Sunday in Boston.

Thursday is a 7:30 p.m. ET start in Philadelphia.

“I want to win and I can't let my brothers down,” House Jr. said. “My name was called, so I had to step up.”

Doc Rivers, Wednesday afternoon, on the team’s mindset ahead of Game 6:

“You can’t get too comfortable. Period. In the playoffs, there’s no such thing as comfort. I’ve never heard the words comfort and playoffs together. They just don’t go together.”

P.J. Tucker: “My wife’s second wedding ring. I designed it and went through this whole thing – yeah, it was a big deal. The first one was really modest because I was young. I was 23 or 24, so it was nice, but it wasn’t great. So the second one – ten years later – was a big deal in designing it and the whole process. She was almost crying when I gave it to her, after we had already been married for a long time. That was pretty cool.”

Paul Reed: “I got my mom a house. I think that’s my greatest gift so far.”

Shake Milton: “Maybe just like a little piece of art that kind of is like an inside joke, or something like that. I feel like I would say that, yeah.”

Most memorable sporting event you’ve been to as a fan?

Tyrese Maxey: “Last summer, I went to watch the first round of Serena [Williams] at the US Open. That was my first time at a tennis match ever in my life. For it to be so inspirational that I come home and I start playing tennis, and was actually sitting on my couch at 2 a.m. watching the [semifinals] – women’s and men’s – that’s like second-to-none. That’s amazing. That it can change somebody like that. I had never watched a tennis match ever in my life. I go to hers and watch one first round of the US Open, and now I’m watching tennis and going to play tennis on off days with Shake Milton and [76ers skill development coaches] Tyler Lashbrook and Spencer Rivers. That’s really cool.”

Georges Niang: “My senior year of college, I signed with an agency that was in LA and I got to go to Kobe Bryant’s last game. It was poetic. I think he shot 70 shots and every time he got the ball in the second half, it was like a pickup game. It was the most amazing thing I’ve ever seen.”

De’Anthony Melton: “It would have to be one of the USC [football] games. I remember first getting there, you get to do a little tailgate and they walk you through the school. I got to do that, walk through all of the students and stuff like that. Then go onto the field and see them dudes warm up. USC it’s like – it’s pros, so you’re seeing these dudes, they’re big, they’re ready. So it definitely had to be one of those USC games. Those were fun. Got to stand in the stands with the fans and students, do the cheers, all that.”

Reed: “I went to a WWE match recently and that was kinda lit, no cap. In Philly. I think that's the most memorable so far.”

Milton: “I remember when I was little, my pops used to take us to the Texas Longhorns games. So we went to one at Oklahoma State and in the second half, Vince Young came out and ran like 80 yards for a touchdown. That was really cool.”

What is something you think is misunderstood about you by the public?

Tucker: “I think, more times than not, they almost get everything wrong about me… I think I’ve done almost too good of a job of how I present my play and what I do on a night-in, night-out basis, rather than people really seeing the way I change the way I play based on who we play and what we need to be able to win.”

Maxey: “I’m a human being, so everybody struggles. Everybody goes through their moments, whether it’s behind closed doors or on the court. But, for the most part, this is who I am. I don’t smile because it’s fake. I smile because I really enjoy being out there, competing, and playing at the highest level. That’s fun to me.”

Melton: “I’m a quiet person until I really get to meet you. And then I’ll be joking a lot. Probably on the court, people don’t see me show as much emotion. I would probably say that. But I think most of the time [off the court], I’m laughing, joking, playing around.”

Milton: “That everybody thinks I’m just so quiet. Like, yeah I’m laid back and calm, but I feel like everybody in my circle be telling me to shut up more than anything else.”

When you retire, what do you want people to say about you?

Tucker: “I want [teammates] to say that I was the hardest working, most unselfish player they ever played with.”

Maxey: “When I retire, I would hope people would say Tyrese was somebody who outworked a lot of people, who earned everything that he got – all of the accolades he got in the league. There was nothing given to him. And that he somehow got one percent better, literally, every single day and found ways to reach the maximum level of his potential.”

Niang: “I’ll be serious for one time in my life. I think just [for] people to respect the hard work that I put in every single day. I may not have been the fastest, jumped the highest, but at the end of the day I came in and gave my all. Affected the game in a positive way and affected my teammates in a positive way. I think the biggest thing for me is I like to be a team guy, get along with everybody, and make sure the vibes are always up. De’Anthony can attest to this, I probably talk too damn much, but just someone that is always trying to bring energy. Came in and did his job to the best of his ability…and a 3-point sniper.”

Melton: “Man, that he was a real one. He got it done. Nah, I’m playing. Somebody that worked. He ain’t have nothing handed to him. I had to go get everything and I did it my way. I didn’t have to change up or nothing like that. The same person from the time I got into the league until the time I leave.”

Reed: “I want people to say that he is one of the best players to ever play the game. I want people to say that he is a great human being off the court, as well as on the court. One of them dudes that just gives back to his community and really changes people’s lives.”

Danuel House Jr.: “That this guy gave us more life than you can ever imagine. That whatever you think or say about him doesn't really matter because I know the real him.”

Thursday in South Philadelphia, the 76ers hosted their annual Sixers Youth Foundation Gala.

The result? More than $1.5 million raised for the youth of Camden, Philadelphia, and the Greater Delaware Valley.

“We’re so excited to be able to help Philly,” 76ers Managing Partner Josh Harris said at the gala. “We have a lot of history with the city, and with the Sixers and with the Sixers Youth Foundation, we can do a lot of good.&nbsp;

“We’re paying it forward, it’s really exciting. If people hadn’t paid it forward for us, we wouldn’t be here. So it’s our pleasure to give back.”

The gala, which featured a silent auction and performances from the Sixers’ own Danuel House Jr., DJ Jazzy Jeff, and the Sugarhill Gang, reached its fundraising goal well before doors opened.

“I feel so inspired by this organization,” Sixers Youth Foundation Chair Marjorie Harris said. “I think it really allows the whole organization to feel like something bigger.

“It’s been an amazing opportunity for us to really hone in, dig deep, and figure out how to give the kids of this city a great opportunity to do whatever they need to do to succeed.”

The Sixers players, coaches, staff, and ownership were all in attendance.

“We have a lot of people who are invested in these programs, a lot of people who care about kids growing up being able to have access to resources and opportunities,” Shake Milton said. “I think it’s important to continue to try to pour into our youth and pour into the people that are going to be building and leading this country one day.”

Georges Niang sees himself in the young people supported by the foundation’s initiatives.

“Basketball was huge for me growing up,” Niang said. “It was definitely a direct avenue to success for me. So if these after school programs, and everything that they do with this money can help a kid have direction of their own, I would consider that a huge success.”

Reflecting on the evening, Matisse Thybulle was honored to step into a role once served by other professional athletes during his own childhood.

“Often times I forget what it was like to meet an NBA player when I was a kid. We have the opportunity because of our fans to have a platform, so to come back and give back a little bit in small gestures like this, I think, is the least we can do.”

Sixers Youth Foundation Reaches New Heights at Annual Gala

Coming off a perfect 5-0 road trip, the 76ers (30-16) return home looking to maintain momentum against the Brooklyn Nets (29-17) on Wednesday night.The Nets, who are 16-10 away from home this season (only Boston has more road wins with 17), captured victories at Utah on Friday and Golden State on Sunday. In their 120-116 win over the defending-champion Warriors, Brooklyn overcame a 17-point deficit late in the first half and finished the game shooting 54-percent from the floor and 52-percent (14-27) from 3-point range. They missed a season-high 11 free throws.Kyrie Irving posted a game-high 38 points (12-22 fg, 5-7 3fg, 9-9 ft) with seven rebounds and nine assists.&nbsp;Leading scorer Kevin Durant (MCL sprain) remains out. The full injury report – as of Tuesday night – included the following Sixers: Joel Embiid (questionable - left foot soreness) and Furkan Korkmaz (out - right shoulder soreness).

Irving averages 26.7 points per game, second to Durant’s 29.7 points, and fourth-year pro Nic Claxton is Brooklyn’s leading rebounder (8.7 RPG). Over the past five games, Claxton is averaging 19.2 points on 73-percent shooting, along with 11.0 rebounds, and 3.6 blocks.On Nov. 22, the Sixers defeated the Nets, 115-106, without Embiid, James Harden, and Tyrese Maxey. The victors tallied 47 bench points in the home contest, including a 19-point, 10-rebound double-double from Paul Reed and 16 points (4-5 3fg) in 17 minutes from Georges Niang.In their last game, a 129-127 win over the Kings in Sacramento to conclude the undefeated, five-game trip, the Sixers rallied from 21-down – their largest comeback victory to date this season. They did so in the absence of both Embiid (left foot injury recovery) and Harden (right foot tendon strain).

Danuel House Jr. banked in a 3-pointer at the first-half buzzer to cut the deficit to 10, and Maxey started the second half with a flurry, scoring 10 of his 15 third-quarter points in the first three minutes of the frame.“I think even before the third quarter, when [Danuel] House got in – his energy at the end of the first half and then he hit that big three to end the half,” Maxey said. “I think that’s when the energy shifted. We knew we had a chance to win, but Coach Doc said it, we were going to win the game. ‘Let’s get it to 15’. Once we get it to 15, then we get it to 10. We get to 10, then we got a shot.”The Sixers registered 70 points in the paint and 23 second chance points on 16 offensive rebounds.“I just think we have a resilient group,” Niang said. “No matter who is there, we’re just going to come in and continue to fight. Obviously we were down big early. We dug ourselves out of a hole, I think twice actually. We just kept fighting. I think we have a group of guys that’s really willing to put their egos aside and no matter who’s playing just show up every day and give everything they have. If we’re close at the end, we’ll make our plays and I think that’s huge to have guys that are resilient like that.”Both the Sixers and Nets boast top-10 rankings for both offensive and defensive rating. From beyond the arc, the clubs are second (BKN, .389) and fourth (PHI, .380) in 3-point percentage.After facing the Nets, the Sixers will host Nikola Jokić and the Denver Nuggets on Saturday at 3 p.m.

Without Embiid and Harden available, six 76ers stepped up to score at least 14 points against the Kings. Of those six players, five of them also had at least five rebounds, and four members of the group delivered at least five assists:

Following a 133-103 road win over the Orlando Magic on Sunday night, the 76ers (11-9) return home to play the Atlanta Hawks (11-9) on Monday in the second half of a back-to-back for both teams.Philadelphia’s 133 points Sunday marked their new season-high.The Hawks lost the front end of their back-to-back at home,106-98, to the Miami Heat. John Collins (23 points, season-high 14 rebounds) and Trae Young (22 points, season-high 14 assists) each recorded a double-double in defeat, with 13 of Young’s points coming at the line (13-13 ft) on a 4-for-16 shooting night. Clint Capela (dental pain) missed his second consecutive game.Young averages 28.2 points and 9.4 assists per game. All-Star teammate Dejounte Murray – who shot 5-for-16 against Miami – adds 20.8 points and 6.7 assists per contest.The Hawks are 4-6 in their last 10 games and have lost two straight, while the Sixers have won seven of 10, including their last two – both in Orlando.In the second win, the Sixers were again without Joel Embiid, James Harden, Tyrese Maxey, Matisse Thybulle, and Jaden Springer due to injury. The team announced during the third quarter that P.J. Tucker (left ankle soreness) would not return to the game. The Magic played without five players and had two more leave with injuries in the second half.

Four Sixers posted season-high scoring totals in the victory: Shake Milton (game-high 29 points), Tobias Harris (25 points), Danuel House Jr. (19 points), and Furkan Korkmaz (17 points)."Guys are stepping up,” House Jr. said postgame. “Names are being called. Guys are stepping up and showing that they’re forever ready. Our motto is ‘stay ready’ because it’s a ‘We’ Season. We all are just trying to come in and put it together and win games.”The Sixers shot a sparkling 64.9 percent (50-77 fg) as a team. They connected on 11 of their 27 3-point attempts (.407), while also scoring a season-high 72 points in the paint (72-44 advantage).

“We came out and played with pace right out the gate and with that pace we were moving the ball,” Shake Milton said. “The ball was really hopping tonight. Everyone got a touch and everybody was able to get into a rhythm. Our defense really helped our offense. We were able to get stops and get the ball up and get some numbers.”Milton averaged 25.0 points, 7.0 rebounds, and 8.7 assists during the three-game road trip.Paolo Banchero scored a team-high 18 points (7-17 fg, 1-4 3fg, 3-6 ft) for the Magic on Sunday.Newest Sixer Saben Lee made his team debut and scored down the stretch.

The 76ers (8-8) prepare to host the Brooklyn Nets (8-9) in their next game on Tuesday night. The Sixers will then travel to Charlotte for the second half of a back-to-back that tips off a three-game road trip over the Thanksgiving holiday.The Sixers announced Monday that Joel Embiid will miss the upcoming back-to-back games with a left mid-foot sprain.The following Sixers were included on the Monday injury report: Embiid (out - left mid-foot sprain), James Harden (out - right foot strain), Tobias Harris (probable - left hip soreness), Furkan Korkmaz (probable - left knee effusion), Tyrese Maxey (out - left foot fracture), and Jaden Springer (out - right quad strain).Harris, who did not play over the weekend but hopes to return Tuesday, went in-depth on the team’s depth:“Going into this year, one of the main things we talked about was the depth of this team,” Harris said. “Now, it’s being presented right up in front of us. With guys out, we still have a lot of pieces that can help and contribute. We have a lot of guys who, early on, were out of the rotation – had great training camps, great preseasons – and now have this opportunity to play. For all those guys – Shake [Milton], Furk [Furkan Korkmaz], Matisse [Thybulle], in particular – those are all guys who have stayed in the gym and put in a lot of time… Now the opportunity is presented that we have guys down and the time is here to step up. Those guys are ready and have put the time in. We have always kept that attitude and whole culture of ‘Hey, you might not be playing or you may be out of the rotation, but you’re going to get minutes tonight. You never know what could happen in a long season.’ That’s important for our whole group.”

The Nets defeated Portland and Memphis in their last two games. In a 127-115 victory over the Grizzlies on Sunday, Ben Simmons tallied 22 points (11-13 fg), eight rebounds, five assists, and one steal for Brooklyn. Kevin Durant had 26 points, seven rebounds, seven assists, one steal, and one blocked shot. Kyrie Irving came back from suspension for his first game since Nov. 1 and scored 14 points.Durant ranks fifth in the NBA in scoring average at 30.4 points per game. Embiid is tied for second alongside Golden State’s Stephen Curry (32.3 PPG), with Dallas’ Luka Dončić (33.5 PPG) topping the list.Fifth-year Sixer Shake Milton dropped 27 points (10-15 fg, 3-5 3fg, 4-4 ft) and trailed only Embiid in scoring during the team’s 112-109 loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves on Saturday."He was just making a lot of things happen,” teammate Georges Niang said of Milton. “That’s what Shake’s capable of. He was getting in the lane, finishing shots that he normally finishes, and he’s just crafty. Shake’s been putting a lot of work in to get to this point, battling through last year with the injury and stuff. So it’s great to see Shake be Shake."

"This is our family,” Tyrese Maxey said Monday after his teammates practiced. “Ever since Charleston, first day of training camp, we've kind of established that. Everybody really likes each other here. Everybody wants to see everybody succeed."

With a star-filled injury report at the moment, the shorthanded Sixers look to band together – one game at a time.Tuesday’s contest between the 76ers and Nets is a 7:30 p.m. start.

Quote to Note:Tyrese Maxey on his growing range from 3-point territory:“I worked on it a lot this summer, because I knew that shooting catch and shoot threes last year, defenses are going to try to be there and arrive on the catch. If I could extend them a little bit further, I get opportunities to drive and kick it to my teammates, or finish at the rim for myself. That being a weapon is better for us as a team I think.”

76ers Set for First Meeting with Knicks | Gameday Report 10/82

The 76ers (0-2) return to action on Penn Medicine Court at The Center on Saturday evening against the San Antonio Spurs (1-1). It’s a road back-to-back situation for the Spurs, after a win in Indiana on Friday.

Thursday in South Philadelphia, the Sixers dropped their home opener to the Milwaukee Bucks (1-0) by two points, 90-88.

James Harden finished with a game-high 31 points, marking the second time in as many opportunities this season that Harden has reached the 30-point mark. After Harden’s 35-point effort in the season opener at Boston, Tyrese Maxey was asked about what he saw from his teammate:

“Yeah, I mean, he’s James Harden,” Maxey said. “There’s nothing else I can really say… I know what he can do. I’ve seen it on TV, I’ve seen it in real life, I’ve seen it all before.”

In addition to his 31 points, Harden also registered eight rebounds, nine assists, two steals, and one blocked shot in Thursday’s game. With totals of 65 points, 16 rebounds, and 16 assists so far this season, Harden is the only player in 76ers history to post at least 65 points, 15 rebounds and 15 assists over a two-game span to start the season.

"Unselfish,” said Danuel House Jr. about what he likes most about Harden’s early-season play. “He's a team player. He's stressing that we do this together. He's not looking to step alone this season. He's stepping with us, and we're stepping with him."

Giannis Antetokounmpo led Milwaukee in scoring with 21 points on 9-of-16 shooting.

The Sixers trailed by 10 points after three quarters. Their 13-0 run in the fourth quarter later tied the game and electrified the sold-out building. Harden spearheaded the comeback, while P.J. Tucker provided an additional spark with hustle plays left and right.

Tucker, a member of the Bucks’ 2021 title team, was tasked with guarding his former teammate Antetokounmpo.

“I was very happy with that,” 76ers Head Coach Doc Rivers said of Tucker’s defense. “Tuck was fantastic overall. He did a heck of a job. And Giannis – usually one man doesn’t guard him. And tonight, for the most part, Tuck did that.”

In 39 minutes of action, Tucker came away with two steals and a block on the defensive end and notably pulled down four of his five total rebounds on the offensive glass.

Saturday’s game between the Sixers and Spurs is a 6 p.m. ET start.

“He’s a great player. If he gets going, no matter what you do, he’s still going to get the bucket.”&nbsp;

Spurs Head Coach Gregg Popovich added a familiar face as an assistant coach during the offseason: Brett Brown, who coached the Sixers from 2013-20, will make his return to Philadelphia on the opposite bench.

This year’s Spurs roster features three first-round draft picks from the most recent draft: Jeremy Sochan (No. 9 overall out of Baylor), Malaki Branham (No. 20 overall out of Ohio State), and Blake Wesley (No. 25 overall out of Notre Dame). Five Spurs players, including the three rookies, are 19 years young.
