PHILADELPHIA 76ERS HOST ANNUAL SIXERS “BLUE WEEK,” PRESENTED BY INDEPENDENCE BLUE CROSS

SIXERS CELEBRATE WITH MASCOT RAPPEL DOWN PHILADELPHIA SKYSCRAPER, KICK OFF NOVACARE JUNIOR SIXERS LEAGUE WITH CLINIC FOR 100 AREA YOUTH, AND GIVEAWAY T-SHIRTS ON OPENING NIGHT GAME FRIDAY OCTOBER 30

PHILADELPHIA, PA – OCTOBER 19, 2015 The Philadelphia 76ers today announced details for their annual Blue Week, presented by Independence Blue Cross. Blue Week celebrations include 13 days of events for fans leading up to and including the t-shirt give-away at the Opening Night Game Friday, October 30 at 7:00 p.m. against the Utah Jazz, presented by Independence Blue Cross. Sixers Blue Week celebrations began Saturday, October 17 with the Sixers Open Practice and Kids Clinic at University of Delaware, and continue through Friday, October 30. 

“We are appreciative of the support we receive from Sixers fans in and around the City of Philadelphia and will continue the Sixers tradition of Blue Week in celebration of our home opener on October 30th," said Sixers CEO Scott O’Neil. “Independence Blue Cross, and their continued commitment to the community, is the perfect partner to join us in our celebration of Sixers fans and the start of the season.  We will jump start our Junior Sixers initiative with an event for kids playing the game we love; and in a nod to Pat Croce, we will hold our collective breath as Franklin rappels 418 feet down a prominent Philadelphia skyscraper.”

Tuesday, October 20 – Friday, October 30: Random Acts of Sixers Spirit

Location: Philadelphia Region

DetailsThe Sixers Front Office staff will bring their Game Night “76 Second” initiative to the streets of Philadelphia when they provide “76 Seconds” of Sixers spirit to Philadelphian’s sporting Sixers colors with two free tickets to the Sixers home opener.

 

Wednesday, October 21: PECO’s Threes for Trees, Sixers Players Plant Trees, Refurbish Local Court

Location: Fairmount Park (Sedgley Rd. & Poplar Drive)

Time: 3:00 p.m. -3:30 p.m.

Details:  In their annual “Threes for Trees” Community Service initiative, sponsored by PECO, Sixers players and staff are joined by local volunteers to restore a Fairmount Park basketball court and plant trees in honor of Sixers three pointers made during the 2014-15 season. 

 

Wednesday, October 21 – Saturday, October 24:  Franklin Supports Franklin Institute’s SportZone Grand Opening Events and Basketball Themed Interactive Exhibition

Location: Franklin Institute (222 N 20th St, Philadelphia, PA 19103)

Details: In honor of the Grand Opening of The Franklin Institute’s new SportsZone, featuring a basketball-themed interactive exhibit and wall-scape of Sixers starter Nerlens Noel, Franklin will be attending three major promotional events at The Franklin Institute.

 

Friday, October 23:  Sixers Mascot Franklin Rappels 418 Ft. Down One Logan Square

Location: One Logan Square (130 N. 18th Street, Philadelphia, PA 19103)

Time: 9:30 a.m. (Franklin begins rappelling)

Details: Sixers mascot Franklin will show his gutsy Sixers spirit with a death defying 418 foot rappel down One Logan Square, raising awareness for Outward Bound’s pledge to support Philadelphia Area Schools.  After a wave of the massive Sixers spirit flag from the roof, Franklin will begin his rappel at approximately 9:30 a.m.  Franklin will receive support and encouragement from Sixers Phlight Squad and Dance Team waiting at the bottom with prizes and t-shirts for attending fans who cheer Franklin down 31 stories.  

 

Saturday, October 24: Sixers Phlight Squad and Dancers Bring Spooky Sixers Spirt to Linvilla Orchard

Location: Linvilla Orchard (137 W Knowlton Rd, Media, PA 19063)

Time: 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

Details: Sixers Dancers and Phlight Squad will help families pick (and roll), carve, and paint their perfect pumpkin with spooky Sixers designs.  Sixers prizes, merchandise, ticket-giveways, performances by the Phlight Squad, and hayrides with Sixers Dancers will amplify the festivities.    

 

Sunday, October 25:  Sixers Players Hold NovaCare Junior Sixers Clinic for 100 YMCA Youth as a part of Junior NBA Week 

Location: PCOM Sixers Training Facility (4170 City Ave, Philadelphia, PA 19131)

Time: 1:30 p.m.

DetailsTo tip-off the Sixers new partnership with YMCA Brandywine and YMCA Freedom Valley for the Junior Sixers League, presented by Novacare, Sixers Players Nerlens Noel, Robert Covington, Jakarr Sampson, and Richaun Holmes, along with Sixers Head Coach Brett Brown and staff, will host a special clinic for over 100 selected YMCA participants and their families.

 

Tuesday, October 27:  Sixers Surprise Deliveries with Papa John’s

Location: SEPTA Center City Bus Route, SEPTA Trains, SEPTA Broad Street Line

Time: 8:00 a.m. – 9:00 a.m.

Details:  Lucky SEPTA riders will receive surprise Sixers gear and prizes on their morning commute, distributed by Sixers Dancers, Phlight Squad, and Franklin.

 

Friday, October 30: Opening Night T-Shirt Giveaway, Presented by Independence Blue Cross (Tickets)

Location: Sixers Home Arena (3601 S. Broad St., Philadelphia, PA 19148)

Time: Tip-off at 7:00 p.m.; Fans encouraged to arrive early.

Details: The Philadelphia 76ers will host the Utah Jazz in the team’s opening game, presented by Independence Blue Cross. In honor of Blue Week, all fans in attendance will receive a blue ‘Since 1776’ promotional t-shirt, courtesy of Independence Blue Cross. Branding themes from the Sixers popular ‘Since 1776’ ad campaign, referencing to Philadelphia’s gritty and revolutionary history, will be integrated into the Game Presentation and Introduction Video – amplified by the Sixers state-of-the-art 3D court projection system.
