Sixers to Honor Moses Malone with Tribute Night Game

PHILADELPHIA, PA – NOVEMBER 24, 2015 – The Philadelphia 76ers will pay tribute to Sixers great and NBA legend Moses Malone with a Tribute Night game Tuesday, December 1 at 7:00 p.m. against the Los Angeles Lakers. The Sixers will honor the three-time NBA MVP with special tributes throughout the game, including an appearance by Malone’s 1982-83 NBA Championship teammate Julius “Dr. J.” Erving. The Sixers organization will make a special presentation to Malone’s family, who will reveal a major announcement at halftime that will honor his legacy as a Sixer. Themed basket stanchions will be dedicated by Kia Motors America, and the first 15,000 fans will receive a tribute poster also sponsored by Kia Motors America. Tribute videos and testimonials by NBA stars including Shaquille O’Neal, Sixers alumni Charles Barkley, Dominique Wilkins, and Earl Cureton will play throughout the game. Sixers players will wear red shooting shirts bearing the name “Malone” on the back, with the number “2” encased in a black star on the front.
Malone signed with Sixers as a veteran free agent on September 2, 1982. In five seasons with the Sixers he averaged 24.5 points and 12.0 rebounds per game, including 22.7 points and an NBA-high 15.3 rebounds during the 1982-83 Championship season. Malone was a three-time NBA MVP, including during the 1982-83 NBA Championship season with Sixers, wherein he was also an NBA Finals MVP. He was a 12-time NBA All-Star, including all four seasons during his first stint with Sixers from 1983-86, and six-time NBA rebounding champion, including the 1982-85 seasons with Sixers.

Moses will forever be known as the consummate teammate, the ‘Chairman of the Boards’ and an integral part of the Sixers’ family,” said Philadelphia 76ers CEO Scott O’Neil. “Surrounded by his family, friends, and 1982-83 teammate we will celebrate the life and honor the career of a man who inspired and challenged generations of ballplayers, delighted millions of fans, and shaped the future of the NBA and the game of basketball.”
The Moses Malone Tribute Night is the first of three Sixers Tribute Nights this season honoring Sixers legends. This Sixers will honor Darryl Dawkins on Saturday, February 6 at 7:30 p.m. vs. Brooklyn Nets and famed statistician Harvey Pollack on Wednesday, March 2 at 7:00 p.m. vs. Charlotte Hornets. Individual tickets for Moses Malone Tribute Night on Tuesday, December 1 at 7:00 p.m. against the Los Angeles Lakers, as well as all single game tickets and ticket packages, are on sale now by phone at 215-339-7676, online at SIXERS.COM, and in person at the box office.
Fans may share their memories of the NBA Hall of Famer on a Memory Wall on the concourse, adorned with “Sixers Forever” banners. The Philadelphia 76ers’ 1982-83 Larry O’Brien Championship Trophy and a life-size cutout of Malone will be available on the concourse for fan pictures. The Sixers Phlight Squad will perform a tribute routine to the song “Planet Rock”, while the Sixers Dance Team will perform to “Get Down on It” – both 1982-83 Billboard hits. Sixers Dancers will wear apparel sporting Malone’s #2 on the back.
