Jrue Holiday Selected To First All-Star Game
Holiday becomes the youngest player in franchise history to be named an all-star
PHILADELPHIA, PA. – JANUARY 24, 2013 – The reserves for the 2013 NBA All-Star Game were announced tonight and Sixers guard Jrue Holiday was chosen as a representative for the Eastern Conference. The 22-year-old Holiday is the youngest player in franchise history to be named an All-Star.
“On behalf of our entire organization, I would like to congratulate Jrue Holiday on being named a member of the 2013 NBA Eastern Conference All-Star team,” said Sixers Managing Owner Josh Harris. “We are extremely proud of Jrue and consider him to be one of the cornerstones of our franchise and also one of the NBA’s bright young stars. We look forward to seeing him represent the Sixers and our fans during All-Star weekend.”
This season, Holiday is averaging team-highs of 19.0 points and 9.0 assists along with 4.2 rebounds and 1.45 steals per game. He ranks 13th in the NBA in scoring and fourth in assists and is the only player in the league averaging at least 19.0 points and 9.0 assists.
Holiday has already recorded 11 double-doubles this season, including one triple-double, after having just one in 2011-12. He is currently averaging twice as many assists as he did in 2011-12 and is on pace to join Wilt Chamberlain as the only player in franchise history to have averaged 18-plus points and 8-plus assists in a single season.
Originally the 17th overall pick by Philadelphia in the 2009 NBA Draft, Holiday is in his fourth season with the Sixers. He has started all but five of a possible 190 games dating back to 2010-11.
The All-Star reserves were selected by the 30 NBA head coaches. Coaches voted for seven players within their conference, including two guards, three frontcourt players and two players regardless of position. Coaches were not permitted to vote for players on their team.
The 62nd NBA All-Star Game will be played at the Toyota Center in Houston on Sunday, Feb. 17, 2013 at 8 p.m. (ET) and will be televised exclusively on TNT.
