Game Preview | A Rematch in Cleveland

by Lauren Rosen

Facing the Cavaliers (4-7) for the second time in six days, the 76ers (7-5) will look to end their three-game road trip on a high note before heading home for three straight games at The Center.

Sunday’s contest marks the end of a demanding stretch for the Sixers, which will have played nine of their first 13 games on the road.

“The only thing really on my mind is to win,” Tobias Harris said following the team’s 127-119 overtime loss in OKC Friday. “I want to win. We go on to the next.”

Despite the tough stretch, the team knows the season is long.

“We’re going to progress and get better, figure out ways that we can help each other and help our team, and go from there,” Harris said.

When the Cavs visited South Philadelphia last Tuesday, the Sixers fought for a 98-97 victory that came down to the final seconds.

Joel Embiid notched his second 27-point, 16-rebound night of the season in that meeting. Josh Richardson finished with 17 points and five assists, while Ben Simmons added 15 points, five boards, six assists, two steals, and two blocks.

It was the Sixers’ perseverance that made the day Tuesday, as the team’s defense held the Cavaliers scoreless over the final three minutes.

When the Sixers last visited recently re-named Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse (formerly Quicken Loans Arena), the team ran up a 128-105 victory, including a 24-point, 11-rebound, 14-assist triple-double from Ben Simmons.

Friday in OKC, Simmons collected 16 points, 11 rebounds, and eight assists.

Sunday’s contest tips off at 3:00 p.m. ET.

Opponent Outlook:

The Cavaliers will also seek to snap a two-game losing streak Sunday, having fallen to the Sixers and Heat this week. Five-time All-Star Kevin Love is off to a hot start this season, averaging 18.7 points and 12.6 rebounds (no. 5 in NBA) per game. The big man is shooting 44.9% from the field and 88.4% from the line.

In his second NBA season, point man Collin Sexton is averaging 18.4 points per game, including a 31-point, 3-assist performance against the Knicks on Nov. 11.
