PHILADELPHIA – JAN. 25, 2024 – The NBA announced today that the reigning KIA NBA MVP Joel Embiid has been voted a starter for the 73rd NBA All-Star Game in Indianapolis on Sunday, Feb. 18. It is the seventh career All-Star nod for Embiid, each of which has come over the past seven seasons. The only 76ers ever with more All-Star selections than Embiid are Hall of Famers Dolph Schayes (12), Julius Erving (11), Hal Greer (10) and Allen Iverson (eight).

Embiid, Milwaukee’s Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Lakers’ LeBron James are the only NBA players to be named All-Stars in each of the last seven seasons.

Through 32 games, Embiid is averaging an NBA-best and career-high 36.1 points per game, while also posting career-best numbers in free throws made per game (10.8), free throw percentage (88.7%), assists per game (5.9), steals per game (1.2) and plus-minus (8.6).

Embiid leads the NBA with three 50-point games this season, while his nine 40-point games also lead the league. Already a three-time Eastern Conference Player of the Week this season, Embiid has scored 30-plus points in 21 consecutive games, the fifth-longest such streak in NBA history.

As it stands, Embiid’s averages of 36.1 points on 53.9 percent shooting, 11.6 rebounds and 5.9 assists put him on pace to join Wilt Chamberlain (1963-64) as the only players to average at least 35 points, 10 rebounds and five assists for a full season.

This past Monday against San Antonio, Embiid set a 76ers franchise-record with 70 points, surpassing Hall of Famer Wilt Chamberlain’s 68-point performance on Dec. 16, 1967 against Chicago. The total represents a 2023-24 season-high mark in points by any player.

The record-breaking performance saw Embiid become the first player in NBA history to recorded at least 70 points, 15 rebounds, and five assists in a game, as he added 18 rebounds and five assists to his 70 points.

Embiid is joined by Milwaukee’s Giannis Antetokounmpo, Damian Lillard, Boston’s Jayson Tatum and Indiana’s Tyrese Haliburton as Eastern Conference starters with the All-Star Game returning to its classic East vs. West format.
