Led Philadelphia to NBA-Best 11-3 record in January
Second Head Coach in franchise history to earn multiple monthly honors
PHILADELPHIA – FEB. 2, 2023 - The NBA announced today that Philadelphia 76ers Head Coach Doc Rivers has been named Eastern Conference Coach of the Month for January. This honor marks the 13th time that Rivers has received the monthly award throughout his coaching career, and the second at the helm of the 76ers.
Rivers led the 76ers to an NBA-best 11-3 mark in the month, including a perfect 6-0 record on the road. Five of those six wins away from The Center came on a single five-game west coast road trip from Jan. 14-21, marking the second time in franchise history that the team has gone undefeated on a road trip of five-plus games.
Philadelphia finished the month with a perfect 7-0 mark in games decided by less than 10 points.
The 76ers reached the 120-point mark an Eastern Conference-best eight times throughout the month, including a season-high 147-point performance against Detroit on Jan. 10. Philadelphia’s 121.3 offensive rating led all Eastern Conference teams.
This marks the first time this season, and his second time as the leader of the 76ers, that Rivers has captured the monthly coaching honor. He joins Larry Brown as the only two coaches to earn the award multiple times with the franchise. With 13 monthly honors throughout his coaching career, Rivers stands alone in second place on the all-time ledger behind only San Antonio’s Gregg Popovich (17).
For the season, Rivers has led the 76ers to a 33-17 (.667) record, third in the Eastern Conference and fourth in the NBA. Dating back to Dec. 9, Philadelphia is a league-best 21-5, posting an East-best 6.0 net rating during that span.
