Tyrese Maxey Makes Debut in NBA All-Star Game | NBA All-Star Game Preview & Gameday Report

Ahead of his first NBA All-Star Game on Sunday night, Tyrese Maxey took center stage on the LED court for Saturday’s Skills Challenge in Indianapolis.

Team All Stars - composed of Maxey, Trae Young, and Scottie Barnes - narrowly lost to Tyrese Haliburton, Myles Turner, and Bennedict Mathurin of Team Pacers, as the host team has curiously now won the event three years in a row.

Asked what he’ll remember most about his first All-Star Saturday Night experience, Maxey reiterated the feeling of sharing these moments with those closest to him:

"I think just all of the support. My entire family is here, a lot of friends, the Sixers' organization. It's just been great, honestly. I'm extremely happy. I think it's a great opportunity to go out here, decompress and have fun, and just get ready for the second half of the season."

2024 NBA ALL-STAR ROSTERS

While Maxey was selected as an East All-Star reserve for his first appearance, 76ers teammate Joel Embiid was voted an All-Star starter for his seventh-career selection. Embiid (left knee meniscus procedure) was replaced in the starting lineup by Miami’s Bam Adebayo.

The rest of the East starting lineup alongside Adebayo includes Milwaukee’s Giannis Antetokounmpo and Damian Lillard, Boston’s Jayson Tatum, and Indiana fan favorite Tyrese Haliburton of the Pacers. They’ll oppose LeBron James (LAL), Kevin Durant (PHX), Nikola Jokić (DEN), Luka Dončić (DAL), and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (OKC).

Fellow first-time All-Stars like Maxey include Orlando’s Paolo Banchero, New York’s Jalen Brunson, and Toronto’s Scottie Barnes.

QUOTE TO NOTE

Maxey during his live podcast taping of ‘Maxey on the Mic,’ while reflecting on being an All-Star:

“I’m extremely happy to be out here for the 76ers, because they took a chance on me.”
