The Philadelphia 76ers and Virtua, the leading healthcare provider in South Jersey, will host the inaugural Camden Youth Basketball Clinic. More than 800 Camden area youth ages 10-14 are scheduled to attend over the span of the three-day clinic. The Camden Youth Basketball Clinic is designed to improve basketball skills and overall wellness for children throughout the City of Camden and surrounding South Jersey region.
All children in attendance will receive a new pair of basketball sneakers, provided by adidas. All participants will also receive a drawstring backpack, courtesy of Virtua, in addition to a reversible jersey and mini basketball. Gatorade will donate beverage products for participants.
Clinic programming will be centered on physical fitness, nutrition and wellness in addition to basketball skills training and development. Virtua’s nutrition and health experts will serve as guest speakers.
Future Camden Youth Basketball Clinics, presented by Virtua, will take place at the Sixers’ new Training Complex in Camden following its construction and opening.
The Sixers and Virtua announced a multi-year partnership in March 2015, which made Virtua the Official New Jersey Community Health Partner of the 76ers. The organizations will also develop the Sixers Academy of Southern New Jersey, an education program focused on teaching healthy eating habits, the importance of fitness and reading skills. Sixers Academy of Southern New Jersey programming – the first of its kind hosted by the team – will be presented to six South Jersey elementary and middle schools each year of the partnership, and will feature Virtua fitness and nutrition experts as well as Sixers players and staff.
