Last week, Michael Carter-Williams wrote an essay for The Players’ Tribune in which he revealed an unusual method that he and his stepfather use to relieve stress during the NBA season, The Ellen Degeneres Show.

“Every guy in the league deals with losing in his own way. Some come home, turn on the Xbox and try to get revenge on NBA 2K. The vets might watch a movie with the kids or jump in the hyperbaric chamber. The more progressive guys are turning to meditation and yoga,” he wrote. “For me, it’s all about Ellen. I just think she’s awesome. So every weekday at 4 p.m., my stepfather and I pause the basketball talk, grab some snacks, and watch The Ellen Degeneres Show.”

Degeneres was made of aware of the article and delivered the following message to Carter-Williams and his teammates during the opening monologue of her show on Wednesday:

"I had heard a lot of people watch her," Carter-Williams told Comcast SportsNet’s Dei Lynam of how he became a fan of the show. "So we watched it one day, and she is hilarious. She is a great person, and so many different people go on her show. You hear all different kinds of stories and people talk about whatever. I am just glad she mentioned my name."
