Fastbreak: Sixers Announce Preseason Schedule

Thursday, the NBA officially released the complete schedule for the 2013 Preseason. Here’s what we learned:
The Sixers will appear in seven exhibition contests this fall, beginning on Sunday, October 6 (12PM EST) with a game against ACB League club Bilbao Basket in Bilbao, Spain. The team then flies approximately 700 miles north for a meeting with the Oklahoma City Thunder in Manchester, England two days later, on Tuesday, October 8 (3PM EST). The two games are part of an initiative by the NBA to promote the growth of the game globally. In all, eight NBA teams will play eight games in six different countries (Spain, England, Turkey, Philippines, Taiwan, China, and Brazil) this preseason.
In addition to their two NBA Global games, Philadelphia will play five exhibition matches in the States, beginning with a Friday, October 11 meeting with the Celtics at the home of the Sixers’ new D-League affiliate, the Delaware 87ers – The Bob Carpenter Center in Newark, DE.
The team then returns to the Wells Fargo Center for their first true home game of the season (Monday, October 14 vs. Brooklyn) before going on the road to face the Bobcats on Thursday, October 17 and the Cavaliers on Monday, October 21. The latter game will be played at the former home court of Sixer swingman Evan Turner, the Schottenstein Center on the campus of Ohio State University in Columbus. The team closes out the preseason on Wednesday, October 23 with a home game against the Minnesota Timberwolves.
Television and radio broadcast information for all preseason games will be released at a later date.
Brett Brown Hired
On Wednesday, the Sixers announced the hiring of Brett Brown, who will serve as the 24th head coach in the franchise’s 64-year history. The 52-year-old former Spurs assistant met with the media, touching upon his experience working under Gregg Popovich in San Antonio, his attraction to the Sixers organization, and his offensive and defensive philosophies.
