The 76ers acquired De’Anthony Melton from the Memphis Grizzlies on Friday in exchange for the draft rights to the No. 23 overall pick (David Roddy) and Danny Green.

PHILADELPHIA – JUNE 24, 2022 – Philadelphia 76ers President of Basketball Operations Daryl Morey announced today that the team has acquired De’Anthony Melton in a trade with the Memphis Grizzlies.

In the trade, Philadelphia sent draft rights to the No. 23 selection in the 2022 NBA Draft (David Roddy) and Danny Green to Memphis. “First and foremost, I want to thank Danny Green for everything he gave the Sixers organization over the last two seasons. He was a veteran leader, consummate professional on and off the court, and made us all better. I wish him continued success in his recovery and look forward to seeing him back on the court. Heading into the draft, we had a goal of strengthening our rotation and believe we accomplished that by acquiring De’Anthony Melton. He is a young, tough and talented two-way player who can impact the game on multiple levels. We think he will thrive here and we’re excited to add him to our roster,” Morey said following the trade.

Last season with Memphis, Melton averaged career highs across the board with 10.8 points, 4.5 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 1.4 steals in 22.7 minutes per game. His average of 1.4 takeaways per contest led the NBA among players who played in 25-or-fewer minutes per game and also ranked within the league's top-15 overall. Over the past two seasons, Melton has raised his three-point shooting percentage to .388, a significant jump from the .294 mark he posted in his first two career campaigns.

Melton has seen action in 235 career games with Memphis and Phoenix, averaging 8.4 points, 3.6 rebounds and 2.8 assists in 20.7 minutes per contest. Since his NBA debut in 2018-19, Melton has 309 steals, making him one of two players with at least 300 steals in fewer than 6,000 minutes over that span.

Originally selected by Houston with the No. 46 overall pick in the 2018 NBA Draft, Melton was traded to Phoenix prior to the start of the 2018-19 season. He spent his lone collegiate season in his home state with the University of Southern California and posted 8.3 points, 4.7 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 1.9 steals in 27.0 minutes per game. The Trojans posted a 26-10 regular season record in Melton's time with the program, earning an appearance in the 2017 NCAA Tournament and reaching the second round.

On Tuesday, May 24, the NBA announced that 76ers All-Star Joel Embiid earned All-NBA Second Team honors.

Embiid, the 2021-22 NBA scoring champion, is now a four-time All-NBA selection.

An All-Star starter each of the past five seasons, Embiid finished the 2021-22 campaign with season averages of 30.6 points (career high), 11.7 rebounds, 4.2 assists (career high), 1.1 steals (career high), and 1.5 blocks in 33.8 minutes per game. He played 68 games and was the only player in the NBA to rank inside the top-5 for both scoring and rebounding.

This season, Embiid joined Hall of Famers Wilt Chamberlain and Allen Iverson as the only 76ers to ever capture the NBA scoring title.

Embiid also led the NBA in 30-point games with 40 such performances, five more than the next closest player. His 158 total clutch points (clutch time is defined as minutes when the scoring margin is within five points with five or fewer minutes remaining in a game) were the most in the league.

The six-year veteran finished the campaign with 46 double-doubles, tied for the fourth-most in the NBA, and the most for Embiid since his 58 during the 2018-19 season. His 41-point, 20-rebound game against Indiana on April 9 was the lone 40-20 game in the league this season.

With a career-best 77 total steals, plus 99 blocks, Embiid ranked as one of just four players in the NBA with at least 70 and 90 in those categories. He registered seven games with at least three steals and six games with at least four rejections.

Embiid recorded the third triple-double of his career with game highs of 31 points, 15 rebounds, and 10 assists against the Rockets. Defensively, he also registered two blocks to pass Hall of Famer Moses Malone for 10th on the 76ers all-time blocks list (Note: Embiid moved into ninth place on this list later in the season).

In just 27 minutes of action, Embiid posted a career-high-tying 50 points in a home win over the Magic. Embiid shot 17-for-23 overall, 1-for-4 from 3, and 15-for-17 from the free-throw line to hit the 50-point mark for the second time in his career. He completed his double-double with 12 rebounds. According to the Elias Sports Bureau, it was the fewest minutes played in a 50-point, 10-rebound game in the shot-clock era.

In a home win over the Thunder, Embiid tallied 25 points, 19 rebounds, four assists, one steal, and a team season-high five blocked shots in 35 minutes. The outing marked the second time in Embiid's career that he totaled at least 25 points, 15 rebounds, and five blocks, and the first of two he posted this past season. He was the only NBA player to do so even once.

Embiid collected his second triple-double of the season and became the first 76ers player since Wilt Chamberlain in 1968 to record at least 40-10-10 in a game. Across 33 minutes in a 10-point home win over the Cavaliers, Embiid tallied 40 points, 14 rebounds, a season-high-tying 10 assists, and three steals.

On the road against those same Cavaliers in early April, Embiid delivered the second of his 25-15-5 performances to help the 76ers clinch a playoff spot for the fifth straight season. The Sixers' big man led all players with a game-high 44 points, 17 rebounds, and five blocks. Embiid (three times) and Hall of Famers Charles Barkley (three times) and Moses Malone (five times) are the only players in 76ers history to have multiple games of 25-15-5.

This was the only 40-20 game in the NBA this season: 41 points and 20 rebounds from Embiid in 37 minutes of play. Sixteen of his points came in the third quarter alone and 20 rebounds marked his season-high total.

PHILADELPHIA – MAY 20, 2022 – The NBA announced today that Matisse Thybulle of the Philadelphia 76ers earned All-Defensive Second Team honors. This Second Team selection makes Thybulle the seventh 76er ever be named to multiple All-Defensive teams after he was named to the 2020-21 NBA All-Defensive Second Team.

In his third NBA season, he appeared in a career-high 66 games (50 starts), averaging a career-high 1.7 steals and tying a career-best mark with 1.1 blocks per game, joining Nerlens Noel and Hall of Famers Barkley and Erving as the only 76ers to post such averages in a season. He was the only player in the league to average at least 1.7 steals and 1.1 blocks, and the first NBA player to do so since 2019-20.

As a perimeter defender, Thybulle was a disruptor for three-point shooters with a league-leading 23 blocked threes, seven more than any other NBA player. This helped lead Thybulle to 60 blocks within his first 60 outings, making him the first guard since Dwyane Wade to do so in consecutive seasons.

Overall this season, opponents had a field goal percentage of .407 on attempts when Thybulle was defending the shot which was tied for the second-best mark in the NBA among players with at least 500 field goals defended.

By the end of the year, Thybulle totaled 115 steals and 71 blocks this season, making him the only player to top 110 steals and 70 blocks. Thybulle is also the seventh player in team history with at least 110 swipes and 70 rejections in a season.

For his career, Thybulle has come up with 313 steals and 189 blocks in 196 games, making him one of eight players since steals and blocks were first tracked in 1973-74 to do so within their first 200 career games. He’s played 4,270 career minutes and is the only player on the list to see action in fewer than 5,000.

Thybulle’s defensive presence helped lead Philadelphia to a 51-31 (.622) record, marking the team’s second consecutive season winning at least 60-percent of its games. This .622-win percentage gives Philadelphia 16 82-game seasons with a win percentage of .600-or-better.

Thybulle's teammate, five-time NBA All-Star and MVP runner-up, Joel Embiid, received three All-Defensive First Team and 27 Second Team votes.

Matisse Thybulle has been named to the NBA All-Defensive Second Team, his second All-Defensive team selection in his young three-year career.

In season three, Thybulle continued to show why he’s one of the league’s best defenders, averaging a career-best 1.7 steals per game, and tying his career-best 1.1 blocks per game.

Thybulle was the only player in the NBA with at least 110 steals and 70 blocks this season.

The now two-time All-Defenseman continues to be a historically strong shot-blocker among guards, leading the NBA in blocked 3-pointers (23), seven more than any other player this season. He also became the first guard since Dwyane Wade to have at least 60 blocks within his first 60 games of the year in consecutive seasons.

Thybulle was 8th in the NBA in total steals (115), 7th in the NBA in steals per game (1.7). He was one of just two players with multiple six-plus steal games this season.

Thybulle led the league (among players playing more than 50 minutes this season) in deflections per 36 minutes (5.3). He was 3rd in the NBA in total deflections (248) and 4th in the league in deflections per game (3.8).

After Thybulle’s five-steal, two-block effort versus Boston on Jan. 14, Embiid also reflected on Thybulle’s impact while guarding some of the league’s best.

Thybulle collected a career-high six steals in his 31 minutes of play in the Sixers’ Feb. 12 win over the Cleveland Cavaliers, also recording six points (3-5 fg), two rebounds, three assists, and a block.

Against Denver on March 14, Thybulle tied his career-high of six steals, plus nine points (4-7 fg), five rebounds, three assists, and two blocks in 26 minutes of play.

In the Sixers’ Jan. 14 win over Boston, Thybulle finished with eight points, four rebounds, an assist, five steals, and two blocks in 28 minutes of play.

PHILADELPHIA – APRIL 11, 2022 – The NBA announced today that Joel Embiid of the Philadelphia 76ers was named Eastern Conference Player of the week for games played between Monday, April 4 and Sunday, April 10. In his sixth NBA season, it’s Embiid’s seventh career Player of the Week selection and his second of the 2021-22 season. Embiid joins Hall of Famer Allen Iverson (20) as the only players ever to earn the award at least seven times as 76ers since the award’s inception in 1979-80.

After helping Philadelphia clinch its fifth consecutive playoff berth, Embiid led the 76ers to a 2-1 record in games which he appeared. This last stretch of games led to Embiid capturing the league scoring title at 30.6 points per game, making him the third 76er win to the scoring crown, joining Iverson and fellow Hall of Famer Wilt Chamberlain. Embiid became the first center since Moses Malone in 1981-82 to average at least 30 points per game.Over the week Embiid continued his streak of strong performances, extending his streak of 25-point, 10-rebound outings to 10 straight contests, which was the longest such streak of the season. No other player did so in more than seven straight games.

The week saw Embiid post averages of 38.7 points, 14.3 rebounds along with 1.0 steals and 1.0 blocks per game while also shooting .609 from the floor. Embiid was the only player in the league to post such numbers over the week.

Last Tuesday, against the Pacers, Embiid notched his second 45-point double-double of the season with 45 points and 13 rebounds, which made him one of three players with multiple such games. For his career, Embiid has six games of at least 45 points and 10 rebounds which are the second-most in franchise history.

In the second game of the week, Embiid posted his league-best 30th game of the year of at least 30 points and 10 boards against the Raptors.

In Embiid’s final game of the week, he finished with 41 points (14-17 FG) and 20 rebounds against the Pacers. This made him the fifth player in NBA history to score at least 40 points and collect 20-plus rebounds while shooting 80-percent-or-better from the floor. He joined John Drew and Hall of Famers Charles Barkley, Wilt Chamberlain and Bob Pettit as the only players to do so.

For the season, Embiid posted averages of 30.6 points, 11.7 rebounds and 4.2 assists per contest, becoming the first player to average 30-11-4 for a season since Hall of Famer Bob McAdoo in 1975-76. Just four other players have ever compiled such averages: Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Elgin Baylor, Chamberlain and Oscar Robertson.

The Cameroon native is the first center to lead the NBA in scoring since Shaquille O’Neal did so in 1999-2000.

The 76ers (49-30) are set to play their final road game of the regular season Thursday, visiting the Toronto Raptors (46-33).

The Sixers will seek their fourth consecutive victory, and look to cap a perfect three-game road trip.

The first win of the trip came Sunday in Cleveland, a comeback 112-108 victory to sweep the Cavaliers in the regular season series. 

Joel Embiid led the way in the win, notching a 44-point, 17-rebound double-double, plus three assists and five blocks. James Harden collected his second triple-double as a 76er, with 21 points, 10 rebounds, and 10 assists.

The team’s second victory came Tuesday in Indianapolis, fueled by yet another 40-point double-double for Embiid, and a historic 3-point shooting night for the team in a win over the Pacers.

The big man finished with 45 points,13 rebounds, two assists, and a block. He shot 18-for-30 from the field and 2-for-3 from long range.

Tyrese Maxey poured in 30 points on 9-for-12 shooting, including a career-high eight 3-pointers, plus three rebounds, seven assists, a steal, and a block.

Tobias Harris added 17 points, six rebounds, five assists, and four steals, shooting 5-for-6 from long range, while Harden recorded a 11-point, 14-assist double-double.

The team’s 23 3-pointers Tuesday marked a new franchise record.

As of Tuesday morning, the Sixers hold the No. 4 seed in the Eastern Conference, tied record-wise with the No. 2 Bucks, and 0.5 games behind the No. 2 Celtics (50-30). The Raptors hold the No. 5 seed.

The Raptors have won six of their last seven games, most recently beating the Hawks, 118-108, Tuesday.

Pascal Siakam led the way for Toronto, finishing with 31 points, 13 rebounds, six assists, a steal, and a block. Siakam shot 12-for-23 from the field. Scottie Barnes added a 19-point, 14-rebound double-double in the victory.
