PHILADELPHIA – MARCH 3, 2022 – Philadelphia 76ers President of Basketball Operations Daryl Morey announced today that the team has signed DeAndre Jordan. Per team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

In a related move, Willie Cauley-Stein has been released from his 10-day contract.

For his career, Jordan has played in 964 games (775 starts) for the L.A. Lakers, Brooklyn, New York, Dallas and the L.A. Clippers, holding career averages of 9.2 points, 10.4 rebounds, 1.0 assists and 1.5 blocks in 27.0 minutes. He has appeared in 57 playoff games (all starts) for the Clippers, averaging 9.8 points, 11.3 rebounds and 2.0 blocks per game.

A 13-year veteran and one-time All-Star, Jordan is the NBA’s all-time leader in career field-goal percentage, having shot .674 (3587-5323) throughout his career. He is the only player in NBA history to shoot at least 70-percent in multiple seasons, doing so four times.

Prior to joining Philadelphia, Jordan played for the Lakers, appearing in 32 games (19 starts) this season, where he averaged 4.1 points and 5.4 rebounds in 12.8 minutes, while shooting .674 from the field.  Jordan has been named to three All-NBA teams, including one First Team selection (2016) and two Third Team selections (2015, 2017). These honors came as he led the league in rebounding in consecutive seasons from 2013-15. He was named to the All-Defensive First Team in 2015 and 2016 and helped the United States win a gold medal at the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.

The former Texas A&amp;M Aggie will wear No. 9 for the 76ers.

Los Sixers acabaron el mes de enero con unas excelentes sensaciones. El segundo mes del año, mantiene las buenas sensaciones, a pesar de las dos primeras derrotas, ante los Wizards y los Mavericks. Primero con la noticia del nombramiento de Joel Embiid, como jugador del mes en la conferencia Este y después con la tremenda victoria de los Sixers en Chicago, que aprieta aún más la clasificación del Este, con unos Sixers, que apenas se sitúa a un juego (o juego y medio) de la cima de la conferencia.

Joel Embiid, no solo ha destacado de forma impresionante en enero, sino que en febrero ha sido clave para que los Sixers hayan mantenido su pulso en el Este y su candidatura para liderar el Este, al final de la temporada regular (como ya hiciese la pasada temporada).

Tanto en el juego ante los Wizards, como ante los Mavericks en Dallas, sumó 27 puntos, muy importantes para poder competir y aspirar en cada juego por la victoria. Como claves fueron sus 40 puntos en Chicago, para que los Sixers lograsen la victoria y con ella, un aviso al resto de equipos del Este, de que Philadelphia lo quiere todo este año.

Y con este panorama, los Sixers se sitúan ante unas importantes citas, justo antes del Juego de las Estrellas, que dejarán huella en el equipo, por la marca que logre el equipo, antes del parón por el All-Star, y también por la talla de los rivales con los que coincidiremos, lo que sin duda alimentará la moral del equipo, si se logran buenos resultados en estas dos semanas.

Desde el martes 8 de febrero y el jueves 17 de febrero (la última fecha antes del Juego de las Estrellas), los Sixers tendrán la oportunidad de jugar cinco juegos, por lo que la posibilidad de que se pueda acabar en la cima del Este, es algo que se podría lograr.

Pero más allá de eso, salir con buenos resultados, por la moral que eso conlleva, es casi más importante. Y es que tras el triunfo de los Sixers en Chicago, la siguiente cita será en casa ante ni más ni menos, que los Suns de Phoenix.

Son los actuales campeones de la conferencia Oeste (solo los Bucks lograron apartarles de un ansiado anillo), y los actuales líderes de la NBA, con el mejor balance de lo que llevamos de temporada.

Una importante cita, para calibrar el potencial de ambos equipos, que bien podrían verse las caras en los playoffs, ya que son dos grandes candidatos a estar en sus respectivas finales de conferencia.

Los Sixers no dejarán el Sur de Philadelphia para el siguiente choque, cuando nos veamos la caras con los Thunder de OKC. Un juego importante para sumar un nuevo triunfo, justo después de la gran cita ante los Suns y justo antes de verse las caras con los Cavaliers, también el Sur de Philadelphia. Unos Cavs, que ya se han reforzado antes del cierre de traspasos, y que luchan con los Sixers por estar entre los mejores del Este, en la presente temporada.

Ya para la siguiente semana, los Celtics cerrarán una serie de juegos en casa, que marcarán la marca que tengan los Sixers antes del parón por el Juego de las Estrellas. Y aunque jugar con los Celtics, es siempre una cita marcada en rojo para Philly, en este caso será más importante el juego que se llevará a cabo en el Fiserv Forum de Milwaukee, ante los Bucks… los actuales campeones de la NBA.

Todo en medio de una fecha clave para todos los equipos. El 10 de febrero será la fecha límite para traspasos, y saber cómo se reforzarán los equipos, antes de los playoffs. Sin duda un factor que será también determinante, para conocer que dos equipos se verán las caras en las Finales de la NBA, en este 202.

PHILADELPHIA – FEB. 2, 2022 – The NBA announced today that Joel Embiid of the Philadelphia 76ers was named Eastern Conference Player of the Month for games played in January. This latest award is the fourth Player of the Month honor of Embiid’s career as he becomes the first 76er to earn the award in consecutive months after being named Player of the Month for games played in December.

Embiid joins Hall of Famer Allen Iverson as the only 76ers to earn Player of the Month honors at least four times. The honor comes on the heels of Embiid’s fifth consecutive All-Star selection. He’s the fourth 76er ever to be named a starter in at least five All-Star Games, joining Julius Erving, Iverson and Dolph Schayes.

In his 14 appearances in January, Embiid averaged 34.0 points, which led all players, along with 10.8 rebounds (tied for ninth in the NBA, sixth in the East), 5.1 assists, and 1.5 blocks while shooting .542 from the floor in 32.1 minutes per game. He led the 76ers to an 11-3 record in his appearances and scored at least 25 points in each game. The only 76ers to average more points per game than Embiid in a calendar month, while appearing in at least 10 games, are Hall of Famers Wilt Chamberlain and Iverson.

Embiid and Chamberlain are the only two players in franchise history to average at least 34-10-5 over a 14-game span. With his totals in points, rebounds and assists for the month, Embiid joined Russell Westbrook as well as Hall of Famers Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Larry Bird, Chamberlain and Oscar Robertson as the only six players in NBA history to reach such minimums over a 14-game span.

Since 1981-82, five players have averaged at least 34 points and 10 rebounds in a month, while seeing action in at least 10 contests, including Embiid in January 2022. He joins Anthony Davis (Feb. 2018), Westbrook (March 2017) and Hall of Famers Karl Malone (Jan. 1990) and Moses Malone (Feb. and March 1982).

His scoring run over the course of the month was highlighted by his career-high-tying 50-point (17-23 FG, 15-17 FT), 12-rebound and three block performance in a win over the Orlando Magic on Jan. 19. Embiid logged the fewest minutes played (27:03) in a 50-point, 10-rebound game in the shot-clock era.

This was the second game of Embiid’s career with at least 50 points, 10 boards and three rejections, making him the second player in NBA history since blocks were first tracked in 1973-74 to have multiple such games.

Earlier in the month, Embiid notched his third career triple-double with 31 points, 15 rebounds and a season-high 10 assists in a victory over the Houston Rockets.  He became the sixth 76er to post at least 30 points, 15 rebounds and 10 assists in a game and the first since Hall of Famer Charles Barkley in 1989. The others on the list include Red Kerr and Hall of Famers Wilt Chamberlain, Billy Cunningham and George McGinnis.

Through his 14 games in the month, Embiid led the league with 12 games of at least 30 points, giving him 22 for the full year, which are tied for the league lead. Embiid’s per-48-minute numbers for January were 50.8 points, 16.1 rebounds and 7.6 assists. He is the first player in NBA history to average at least 50-15-5 per 48 minutes in a calendar month, while playing in at least 10 games.

Embiid’s four career Player of the Month awards are tied with Iverson for the most in franchise history. Barkley and Moses collected two such awards as 76ers, while fellow Hall of Famer Julius Erving took home the hardware three times. Player of the Month awards were originally introduced at the start of the 1979-80 season.

This past Monday, Embiid was named Eastern Conference Player of the Week for games played between Monday, Jan. 24 and Sunday, Jan. 30. It was his sixth career Player of the Week selection, joining Barkley (six times) and Iverson (20) as the only players ever to earn the award at least six times as 76ers since its inception in 1979-80.

On the season, Embiid is averaging 29.1 points, 10.8 rebounds, 4.4 assists and 1.4 blocks per game, and is the only player in the NBA with such averages. The only other 76er to average at least 29-10 in a season is Chamberlain, who did so in 1965-66, when he earned MVP honors.

Denver’s Nikola Jokić was named Western Conference Player of the Month for games played in January.

Los Sixers acaban el mes de enero con las mejores sensaciones posibles. El balance de los Sixers es envidiable, con una racha de victorias que ha situado a Philadelphia a tan sólo medio partido de diferencia de los Chicago Bulls, que ahora están en la cima del Este.

En una conferencia tan igualada, la racha de los Sixers ha sido fundamental para asentar las aspiraciones del equipo y la fe en una temporada, que podría ser mágica en la historia de la organización.

Ahora es muy complicado prever quién será el equipo que mejor llegue al momento clave de la temporada. Pero sin duda, lo vivido por los Sixers en lo que llevamos de año, ha valido para que el equipo se sitúe entre los aspirantes a todo y con licencia para soñar.

Quizás un poco pronto para asegurar una frase tan grande como esa, pero…¿quién dijo miedo? Es más… ¿Quién lo hubiese dicho antes de mediados del mes diciembre?

Habrá que ver los refuerzos de cara a la segunda parte de la temporada, de equipos como Chicago, Miami, Brooklyn, Milwaukee, o incluso Cleveland, sin olvidarnos de nosotros mismo. También habrá que valorar el estado físico de jugadores clave de estos equipos, en el momento más delicado de la temporada (los playoffs), pero lo que es seguro ahora mismo, es que las sensaciones de los Sixers, son inmejorables.

Y si no tiene toda la culpa, si que es cierto que el máximo responsable de las buenas vibraciones en Philly es Joel Embiid. Que además, ha terminado el mes con el nombramiento de mejor jugador de la semana, en la conferencia Este, liderando al equipo para una semana perfecta de 3-0, con victorias sobre los Pelicans, Lakers y Kings.

Además de liderar la conferencia Este con 34.7 puntos por juego, mientras que fue el único jugador en el Este en totalizar al menos 100 puntos, 35 rebotes, 15 asistencias y siete tapones. Embiid promedió 11,7 rebotes junto con sus 34,7 puntos por partido.

En la temporada, Embiid es el segundo máximo anotador de la liga con 29,1 puntos por partido, mientras que su promedio de rebotes de 10,8 ocupa el noveno lugar.&nbsp; Con estos promedios, Embiid se coloca también como uno de los jugadores mejor posicionados para el galardón de MVP al final de la temporada regular. Un galardón del que está sobradamente capacitado, por sus habilidades y que de seguro podrá alcanzar en varias ocasiones, a lo largo de su carrera.

Sin olvidar que podría convertirse en el segundo jugador en la historia de la franquicia de los 76ers en promediar al menos 29 y 10 durante toda una temporada, uniéndose al miembro del Salón de la Fama Wilt Chamberlain que lo hizo en 1965-66.&nbsp; Solo cinco jugadores han promediado 29-10 durante una temporada completa desde 1990.

Embiid ha totalizado 678 puntos, 211 rebotes y 90 asistencias en sus últimos 20 juegos, desde el 16 de diciembre. El último jugador en alcanzar tales registros en 20 juegos fue Russell Westbrook, quien lo hizo del 2 de marzo al 9 de abril de 2017. Los únicos otros jugadores con tales totales durante un período de 20 juegos son los miembros del Salón de la Fama Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Wilt Chamberlain y Oscar Robertson.

Hablar de Joel Embiid, especialmente en esta temporada, es hablar en mayúsculas. Y es por ello que Philadelphia se permite soñar a lo grande, para esta temporada y en un futuro cercano. Importantes serán los compromisos que tengan los Sixers antes del parón por el Juego de las Estrellas, y de los movimientos del mercado, antes de la fecha límite, para asentar a los Sixers en la cima del Este en la recta final de la temporada regular y en las aspiraciones de anillo para 2022.

Joel Embiid ha sido nombrado, una vez más, como jugador titular en el Juego de las Estrellas, que en esta temporada, se habrá de disputar en Cleveland, Todo un logro que alcanza por quinta ocasión en su carrera.

De este modo, Joel Embidd, se convierte en el primer jugador de los 76ers en ser nombrado titular en al menos cinco Juegos de Estrellas consecutivos desde que el miembro del Salón de la Fama Allen Iverson, lo logró en siete juegos seguidos entre 2000 y 2006. Además, Embiid también es el cuarto jugador en la historia de la franquicia en ser nombrado titular All-Star al menos cinco veces.&nbsp; Los únicos 76ers con más selecciones iniciales son los miembros del Salón de la Fama Julius Erving (11), Dolph Schayes (11) y el propio Iverson (ocho).

Además de todo ello, Embiid, Giannis Antetokounmpo y LeBron James son los únicos jugadores nombrados titulares en cada uno de los últimos cinco Juegos de Estrellas. Un excelente logro, alcanzado con unos números increíbles, ya que en su sexta temporada en la NBA, Embiid es el tercer máximo anotador de la liga con 29,0 puntos por partido, el mejor de su carrera, junto con 10,8 rebotes (décimo en la NBA, sexto en el Este), 4,3 asistencias, 1,0 robos y 1,4 tapones en 32,8 minutos por partido.&nbsp; Es el único jugador de la NBA con tales promedios en 2021-22.

Después de ganar el premio al Jugador del Mes de la Conferencia Este en diciembre, marcando el tercer honor de su carrera, Embiid ha continuado con excelentes actuaciones, que le han catapultado a ser uno de los más serios candidatos (a día de hoy), para alcanzar el MVP al final de la temporada regular.

PHILADELPHIA – JAN. 27, 2022 – The NBA announced today that Joel Embiid of the Philadelphia 76ers was named an Eastern Conference starter for the 2022 NBA All-Star Game in Cleveland. It’s Embiid’s fifth consecutive All-Star selection after being named a starter in each of the past four seasons.

He’s the first 76ers player to be named a starter in at least five straight All-Star Games since Hall of Famer Allen Iverson started seven straight from 2000-06. Embiid is also the fourth player in franchise history to be named an All-Star starter at least five times. The only 76ers with more starting selections are Hall of Famers Julius Erving (11), Dolph Schayes (11) and Iverson (eight).

Embiid, and fellow All-Star starters Giannis Antetokounmpo and LeBron James are the only players to be named starters in each of the last five All-Star Games. In his sixth NBA season, Embiid is the league’s third-leading scorer with a career-best 29.0 points per game along with 10.8 rebounds (10th in the NBA, sixth in the East), a career-high 4.3 assists, 1.0 steals and 1.4 blocks in 32.8 minutes per game. He’s the only NBA player with such averages in 2021-22.

He’s on pace for his fourth career season averaging at least 25 points and 10 rebounds per game, set to join Hall of Famer Charles Barkley as the only two 76ers ever with at least four such campaigns. As it stands, Embiid is one of five players in NBA history with career averages of at least 25 points and 10 rebounds, alongside Hall of Famers Elgin Baylor, Wilt Chamberlain, Karl Malone and Bob Pettit.

After earning the Eastern Conference Player of the Month award for December, marking the third such honor of his career, Embiid has continued his strong performances. Since Christmas Day, Embiid leads the NBA in scoring at 34.7 points per contest and is the only player averaging at least 30 points and 10 rebounds, while shooting at least 55-percent from the floor.

Embiid recently tied Hall of Famer Allen Iverson for the second-longest streak of 25-point games in franchise history with his 15th in a row. In that contest against New Orleans, he tallied a 42-point, 14-rebound double-double. It was his league-best sixth game of the year with at least 40 and 10. Among these outings was a career-high-tying 50-point game against the Magic on Jan. 19.

Over his last four games, Embiid has totaled 170 points and 51 rebounds. Since the 1976-77 NBA-ABA merger, Embiid is one of three players to post at least 170 points and 50-or-more rebounds over a four-game span.  Embiid leads the team with 27 20-point games, 21 30-point performances (second in NBA), six 40-point nights (first in league) and is one of six players with a 50-point outing.

Alongside Embiid in the starting lineup for the Eastern Conference is captain Kevin Durant, Giannis Antetokounmpo, DeMar DeRozan and Trae Young. For the West, the starters are captain LeBron James, Nikola Jokić, Andrew Wiggins, Ja Morant and Stephen Curry.

Fans accounted for 50 percent of the vote to determine the NBA All-Star Game starters, while current NBA players and a media panel accounted for 25 percent each.

After all votes were tallied, players were ranked in each conference by position (guard and frontcourt) within each of the three voting groups – fan votes, player votes and media votes.  Each player’s score was calculated by averaging his weighted rank from the fan votes, the player votes and the media votes. The two guards and three frontcourt players with the best score in each conference were named NBA All-Star Game starters.  

TNT will announce the NBA All-Star reserves, as selected by NBA head coaches, the evening of Thursday, Feb. 3 with the All-Star draft coming on Thursday, Feb 10.

PHILADELPHIA – NOV. 22, 2021 – The Philadelphia 76ers have named Leslie M. Walker as its new Executive Director of the Sixers Youth Foundation (SYF). An accomplished industry executive, Walker brings a wealth of experience in the nonprofit sector across the Philadelphia region.

"I can think of no better person than Leslie to take on the role of Executive Director of the Sixers Youth Foundation,” said Marjorie Harris, Chair of the Sixers Youth Foundation. “As someone who has spent the bulk of her professional career working in the non-profit sector within Philadelphia, Leslie knows our communities intimately and the needs that exist. Throughout her career, she has demonstrated a passion for uplifting children and a deep commitment to strengthening communities – directly in line with SYF's mission and values. I'm confident that Leslie will be able to help us use the power of the 76ers brand to reach more children and have an even greater impact in Philadelphia and our surrounding communities.”

Walker will lead the day-to-day operations of the SYF with management over partnership development, community engagement, financial budgeting and planning in addition to fundraising and event strategy.  Furthermore, she will develop and execute fully integrated programming designed to provide significant engagement within the Philadelphia/Camden communities through sports and entertainment.

Prior to joining the 76ers, Walker served in multiple leadership roles over four-plus years with the Free Library of Philadelphia. Most recently as Interim Director, she managed Youth Services and Programs, the Division of Cultural and Civic Engagement, Human Resources, Finance &amp; Procurement, Information Technology, Materials Management and several other public facing divisions while leading a diverse workforce of over 700 employees spanning more than 50 properties throughout the city of Philadelphia. Before joining the Free Library, Walker gained a wealth of experience in the nonprofit sector across the Philadelphia region serving in executive roles at the Please Touch Museum and Philadelphia Safe and Sound and in consulting roles with the Philadelphia Foundation and Centennial Parkside CDC. Her commitment to helping underserved youth is highlighted by her work at such organizations as Germantown Settlement, Tabor Children’s Services and Philadelphia Safe and Sound. Walker’s experience in community service and development has been established with roles leading community impact projects for On the Table Philly, the Viola Alley Connector Project and the Please Touch Museum.

Walker received her undergraduate degree from Rutgers University – Camden in Urban Studies and a Master of Science in Training and Organizational Development from St. Joseph’s University. She resides in Philadelphia with her two children.

Throughout the pandemic, the SYF continued its commitment to the local community and strengthened its brand with several successful initiatives. The creation of the 76ers sneaker auction raised more than $600,000 with the team auctioning off game-worn shoes from select players. All proceeds went directly toward supporting children in the Delaware Valley. The SYF also commissioned the Aspen Institute to provide a ‘State of Play’ report giving insight into Camden’s youth access to healthy activity and sports while identifying additional opportunities for youth programming in the city. Coming on the heels of the Aspen Institute report, the SYF continued its charitable giving with a $50,000 grant to Greater Philadelphia YMCA and its Soccer for Success program. Soccer for Success is a free after-school program that helps kids establish healthy habits and develop critical life skills through caring coach-mentors and family engagement. The grant giving continued with a $75,000 donation to Up2Us Sports, which is an organization that trains and develops sports-based youth development coaches, practitioners, and organizations to address the most pressing issues facing youth in under-resourced urban communities.  Finally, The Foundation received a rebrand of its website. The revamp came in response to the increased demand to help bridge gaps for the youth in the communities of Philadelphia and Camden at a time when it’s needed most.

PHILADELPHIA – OCT. 29, 2021 – Philadelphia 76ers President of Basketball Operations Daryl Morey announced today that the team has exercised the fourth-year contract option for Matisse Thybulle and the third-year contract option for Tyrese Maxey, both set to take effect for the 2022-23 season.

Thybulle, who is in his third NBA season, was selected by Boston with the No. 20 overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft before Philadelphia acquired his rights in a trade. For his career, Thybulle has appeared in 135 games (22 starts), tallying 4.3 points, 1.8 rebounds and 1.5 steals in 19.9 minutes per game. Thybulle’s 209 career steals rank sixth in the NBA since his rookie season. Over his two-plus NBA seasons, Thybulle has 31 games with at least three steals, a mark that is tied for the third-most in the league during that span. Last season, he was the only player in the NBA to have at least 100 steals and 70 blocks in less than 1,300 minutes played.

A four-year player out of the University of Washington in his home state, Thybulle capped his collegiate career by securing the 2019 Naismith Defensive Player of the Year Award and earning his second consecutive Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Year honor. Maxey, now in his second season, holds career averages of 8.5 points, 1.9 rebounds and 2.1 assists in 16.7 minutes per contest in 63 games (13 starts). Maxey posted a career-high 39 points, along with seven rebounds and eight assists against Denver last season. At the time, Maxey was the first rookie since 2019 to post a 35-5-5 performance in a single game and became just the second 76er rookie to post such numbers in a game.The 76ers selected Maxey with the No. 21 overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft from the University of Kentucky where he appeared in 31 games (28 starts) and tallied 14.0 points, 4.3 rebounds and 3.2 assists in a team-high 34.5 minutes per contest. During his lone collegiate season, he held shooting percentages of .427 from the field and .833 from the free-throw line. These numbers led to Maxey being named to the 2019-20 All-SEC Second Team as well as the SEC All-Freshman Team.
