Recap: Rockets at Magic - 01/14/2015

Turnovers and a Red Hot Oladipo Down Rockets
by Chad Shanks

The Rockets couldn’t overcome 21 turnovers and 32 points from Victor Oladipo as they fell to the Magic 120-113.

The Rockets started flat and let Orlando run up a quick 11-2 lead. Channing Frye hit three three-pointers and for a few minutes had more threes than Houston had field goals. The Rockets eventually got going, but Orlando still held a 10-point lead at the end of the first.

Houston opened the second quarter on a 7-0 run thanks to a three and a layup from Corey Brewer. Brewer scored seven points in the quarter and even stole an Orlando inbound pass after a Harden layup to give the Beard another quick layup to give the Rockets the lead.

However, the Rockets turned the ball over 13 times in the first half and the Magic capitalized. Oladipo scored 18 and Vucevic added 15 to give Orlando a three-point lead at halftime.

In the third, the dynamic duo went to work as the second half opened with Dwight Howard slamming home an alley-oop for two of his 12 points in the quarter. James Harden added 11 points in the third and the Rockets forced six Magic turnovers to take a one-point lead headed into the fourth.

Both teams went back and forth in the final 12 minutes as the game had nine ties and 18 lead changes. However, the Rockets had multiple defensive lapses that gave the Magic wide open paths to the basket. In addition, the 21st and final turnover of the night led to a Victor Oladipo 360 dunk for the dagger.

James Harden finished with a double-double, 26 points and 10 assists, and Dwight Howard scored 23 and grabbed eight boards in the loss.

The Rockets return home tomorrow night to face the Oklahoma City Thunder.
