Training Camp Recap - Day 2

Matt Tierney - Raptors.com

After a long two-practice day to begin training camp, the Raptors were relieved to know they had time to breathe with only a morning session today. But, another two-practice day awa‎its on Thursday.

New faces were the focus of Day 2. Here's what we learned…

Leadership

The Raptors already have leaders on their team in DeMar DeRozan and Kyle Lowry, but another is emerging in free-agent acquisition DeMarre Carroll.

While everyone knows this team is skilled offensively, Carroll knows it's his job to lead on the defensive end, "It's about getting back to the basics, understanding that defence is an important part of the game and that's something we really have to perfect."

THE ROOKIES

Experiencing their first training camp at the NBA level, you would think Raptors 2015 draft picks Delon Wright and Norman Powell would be overwhelmed... Not so, according to Dwane Casey:

“First couple days, they haven’t been lost like deer in the headlights. They still have some things to learn, but the effort, focus and concentration is there.”

When asked what the key is to making a successful transition from college to the NBA, Wright responded, “Making quicker decisions, guys are more athletic and can cover more ground.”

Coach Casey agreed with his rookie point guard, “I was talking with Delon yesterday of how NBA players can change speed, they can go from 0 to 100 in a split second.”

Hard work has been the focus, but it’s also important to enjoy yourself, isn’t that right JV?
