Day 1 of 2015-16 Training Camp is in the books at Fortius Sport & Health in Burnaby, B.C. and here is what we learned…

Defence

This seems an obvious area of concentration as the Raps slipped from 10th in 2013 to 23rd last season in defensive rating.

Coach Casey agreed that's what they will be working on but stressed the need for balance, “That’s going to be a focus these next two days, this week, this month, is to be better defensively.”

“We’re going to be better defensively but in all seriousness we want to have a balance.”

“Getting everybody to buy in and believe in the system,” ‎said point guard Cory Joseph when asked what makes a successful defence.

CanCon

As expected, there was plenty of attention surrounding the Raptors new Canadian free-agent acquisitions.

DeMar DeRozan was impressed when asked about point guard Cory Joseph, “Very smart player, he definitely understands the game, especially coming from a great system in San Antonio”

After a couple of stops in his young NBA career, Anthony Bennett returns home and Coach Casey sees nothing but the positives, “He came out today with great energy. It’s a win-win situation for him.”

Casey also believes both Bennett and Joseph can serve as great role models,‎ “What two better young men to be an example for young kids in the country of Canada than those two.”
