ACHIUWA AND BARNES SELECTED TO 2022 RISING STARS

The NBA announced Tuesday that Toronto Raptors forward Precious Achiuwa and guard-forward
Scottie Barnes have been selected to participate in the 2022 Clorox Rising Stars, which will be played on
Friday, Feb. 18 at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse in Cleveland as part of NBA All-Star 2022. The Raptors will
have two players in the showcase event for the first time since Andrea Bargnani and Jamario Moon in 2008.
In 39 games (22 starts) as a sophomore, Achiuwa is averaging 7.7 points, 7.3 rebounds and 24.5
minutes. He has scored in double figures in 12 games, posted five double-doubles and led the Raptors in
rebounds a team-high 13 times. Achiuwa was acquired from Miami this past summer where he was named
to the World Team roster for the 2021 NBA Rising Stars (the game was not played) as a rookie. He was
picked 20th overall by the Heat in the 2020 NBA Draft.
Barnes is averaging 14.7 points, 7.7 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 1.0 steals and 36.0 minutes in 40 games
(all starts) this season. He leads all rookies in minutes, ranks second in rebounds and fourth in both scoring
and assists. Barnes is shooting .472 (233-494) from the field, has scored 20+ points nine times and
recorded five double-doubles. He set season highs with 27 points Jan. 21 at Washington and 15 rebounds
Dec. 10 vs. New York. Barnes was picked fourth overall by the Raptors in the 2021 NBA Draft.
The NBA announced a new format for the 2022 Clorox Rising Stars, which will feature four sevenplayer teams competing in a mini-tournament consisting of three games. Each game will be played to a
Final Target Score, meaning that a game will end with a made basket or a made free throw instead of with
the clock running out.
The pool of 28 players for Rising Stars will consist of 12 first-year NBA players, 12 second-year NBA
players and four elite young players from NBA G League Ignite, a first-of-its-kind team dedicated to
developing top prospects in preparation for the NBA Draft.
The combined 24 first- and second-year NBA players for Rising Stars were selected by NBA
assistant coaches, with each of the league’s 30 teams submitting one ballot per coaching staff. The four
NBA G League Ignite players will be selected by NBA G League head coaches.
