he Toronto Raptors announced Tuesday they have signed free-agent centre Stanley Roberts. Per team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Roberts, an eight-year veteran, last appeared in the NBA during the 1999-2000 season with Philadelphia where he averaged 2.0 points and 3.0 rebounds in five games.
“Stanley continues to workout in Florida and may join the team sometime after training camp depending upon his progress,” said Raptors Senior Vice-President and General Manager Glen Grunwald.
Roberts, 7-foot, 290 pounds, has averaged 8.5 points, 5.2 rebounds and 19.6 minutes in 300 career games with Orlando, the Los Angeles Clippers, Minnesota, Houston and Philadelphia. His most productive statistical season came in 1992-93 with the Clippers when he averaged a career-high 11.3 points along with 6.2 rebounds in a career-best 77 outings. He has appeared in nine playoff contests, averaging 6.6 points and 5.1 rebounds.
A first-round draft pick (23rd overall) by Orlando in 1991, Roberts played in Spain before joining the Magic the following season.
He averaged 14.1 points and 9.8 rebounds while shooting 57.6 per cent (200-347) from the field in one season of collegiate basketball at Louisiana State where he was a teammate of Los Angeles Lakers All-Star Shaquille O’Neal.
