Ian Clarke

Ian is a financial professional with more than 17 years experience in the sports and entertainment industry ranging from finance, administration, taxation, new business development, government relations, regulatory filings, collective bargaining, union negotiations, bond and loan restructuring.

He joined Maple Leaf Gardens Limited in 1990 as a Controller and was promoted to Vice-President, Finance & Administration in January 1998 prior to the Maple Leaf Gardens and Toronto Raptors merger, which became Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment Ltd. (MLSE). In 2004, he was promoted to Executive Vice-President & Chief Financial Officer, Business Development. Ian previously worked for KPMG providing counsel to clients including Rogers Communications and AMJ Campbell.

Throughout his tenure at Maple Leaf Gardens and MLSE, he's implemented a zero-base budget process, improving financial and accounting reporting systems for both companies.

Today, Ian works closely with MLSE’s President & CEO and Board of Directors to set the company’s strategic direction. He is responsible for all aspects of finance, administration, information technology and business development.

He has spearheaded financial and cost leadership for many high-profile projects such as introducing beer service and implementing corporate suites at Maple Leaf Gardens, finance and tax structuring for the Raptors acquisition, MLSE bond and loan refinancing, negotiating Ricoh Coliseum’s lease with the City of Toronto, acquisition of a Major League Soccer franchise and negotiating a public/private partnership for a new soccer stadium in Toronto.

Ian is also a driving force behind MLSE’s $500 million sports and entertainment development Maple Leaf Square, which will be located on Air Canada Centre’s west plaza. He also played a key leadership role in developing MLSE’s corporate guiding vision and values.

A graduate of Concordia University, Ian holds a Bachelor of Commerce and earned his Chartered Accountant designation in 1986.

Ian has served as Treasurer and Vice-President on the Board of the Second Mile Club of Toronto and will join the Board of St. Michael’s Hospital in June 2006.

A native of Montreal, Ian resides in Pickering with his wife and two children. In his spare time, he is a volunteer hockey coach and an avid golfer.
