Jazz guard Bryon Russell, one of our NBA.commentators for NBA Playoffs 2001, answered questions from fans following Utah's 88-86 victory over the Mavericks in Game 1 on Saturday. The Jazz hold a 1-0 series lead in the Western Conference first round.
Bryon, How's it going to be playing against old teammate Howard Eisley? Are there any hard feelings there or are you all still friends?
No, there are not hard feelings between us.
Will it be strange to play against Howard Eisley in the first round of the Playoffs? Do you miss Howard being part of the team?? Well, I certainly do!
I guess he found a better home, so no I don't miss him. It was nice when he was part of our team but you have to move on now that he's gone.
Some of the sportscasters say that since your injury you haven't been able to shoot like you used to. Do you still hurt? I hope not.
During the regular season I wasn't, but now ... that's a different story, it's the playoffs.
Do you like playing shooting guard? Why?
I like everywhere on the floor.
I just have one question for you; what was it like your first NBA game? What did you feel like when you started playing with John Stockton, and Karl Malone, two of the best players in the whole NBA?
It's a real blessing to play with such great players.
Can't the Jazz activate Jeff Hornacek for the playoffs? Are you wishing that you could?
No, I like the team that we have now.
I wanted to ask Bryon what he thinks will be the key to winning and making a run at the Finals for the Jazz this year. Also, how does he compare their chances this year as opposed to the years they made the Finals?
To outscore the other team each game ... to play defense, rebound ... just get the job done.
