Player Bio

Darryl Gerard "D.J." Augustin Jr. was born in 1987 in New Orleans, Louisiana. Augustin has two older sisters. He spent his first three years of high school at Brother Martin in New Orleans, where he lead the team to two state championships, but he was forced to move to the Houston area after the devastation of Hurricane Katrina. Augustin played his senior season for Hightower High School in Texas but returned to Brother Martin for his diploma. He was named a McDonald's All-American in 2006. While at the University of Texas, Augustin was named to the 2008 Academic All-Big 12 First Team. Augustin enjoys playing the drums and is active in real estate. He averaged 14.4 points and 6.7 assists in his freshman season, but it was his sophomore year when the accolades started to pile up. He was an All-American First Team honoree in 2007-08 and led the Longhorns to the Big 12 tournament final (losing to Kansas), where he was named to the All-Big 12 tournament First Team. As the postseason went on, Augustin helped lead Texas to the 2008 NCAA Tournament Elite Eight. Statistically, he led the Big 12 in assists in both the 2007-08 season (5.8) and the 2006-07 season (6.7). Along with assists, Augustin led Texas in scoring (19.2 PPG) in his sophomore year. He announced after his sophomore season that he would enter the 2008 NBA Draft, where was selected in the first round (ninth overall) by the Charlotte Bobcats.
