PROFESSIONAL CAREER

David Nwaba was not selected in the 2016 NBA Draft but signed with the Los Angeles Lakers. He then spent a season with Chicago and then with Cleveland before signing with Brooklyn for 2019-20. Nwaba suffered a right Achilles injury while playing for the Nets at San Antonio on 12/19/19 and was waived on 1/3/20. He signed as a free agent with Houston on 6/23/20, but did not join the team for the NBA Restart in Orlando as he was still rehabbing. In 21 games as a starter for the Bulls in 2017-18, Nwaba averaged 10.4 points, 6.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists, and 1.2 steals. He was named to the All-NBA Development League All-Defensive Team in 2016-17. Entering 2020-21, Nwaba averaged 6.9 points, 3.7 rebounds and 1.1 assists in 161 career games with 37 starts.

BEFORE NBA

Nwaba began his collegiate career as a redshirt at Hawaii Pacific before transferring to Santa Monica College for a season and then to Cal Poly. In three seasons with the Mustangs, he averaged 11.9 points, 5.3 rebounds, 2.0 assists, and 1.1 steals.

PERSONAL LIFE

Son of Theodore and Blessing Nwaba, both of whom are Nigerian of Igbo origin… Majored in liberal arts with career ambitions of becoming an accountant… Born and raised with five other siblings… His sister Barbara is a professional heptathlete who competed at UC Santa Barbara, winning the 2015 and 2016 National Championships title and competed in the 2016 Olympics… Favorite sport other than basketball is football… Favorite book is Harry Potter.
