Player Bio

Juan Alberto "Juancho" Hernangomez Geuer was born in 1995 in Madrid, Spain. His mother, Margarita Geuer Draeger, played basketball professionally in Spain and represented the nation in international competition, winning a gold medal at the 1993 European Championship. His father, Guillermo, also played professionally in Spain in the 1980s and early '90s. Juancho's brother Willy, was a second round pick of the 76ers in 2015, and is still in the Association. His younger sister, Andrea, is also an aspiring pro player. Juancho played on three different youth teams: CB Las Rozas, Real Madrid and Club Baloncesto Majadahonda. Hernangomez has been a member of Team Spain for multiple international events, including winning a gold medal at the 2019 FIBA World Cup in China. In addition to coming up through the ranks of Spanish basketball, Hernangomez represented the country on the international stage before coming to the NBA. He played in the FIBA Europe Under-18 Championship in 2013. In 2015, he played in the FIBA Europe Under-20 Championship and provided 14.2 points and 8.5 rebounds. He also served as a practice player for the senior Spanish national team for EuroBasket 2015. Professionally, the 6-foot-9 forward joined Real Madrid in 2012. He spent two seasons with the second team. Hernangomez moved up to the senior team for the final two seasons in the ACB. In 2015-16, he was named the ACB Best Young Player after averaging 9.7 points and 5.7 rebounds over 34 games. In April 2016, the forward made himself available for the NBA Draft as an early-entry candidate and was selected by the Denver Nuggets with the 15th overall pick.
