Luwawu-Cabarrot was born May 9, 1995 in Cannes France to Beatrice Cabarrot and Jean Luwawu. Prior to the NBA, he played professional basketball in France. He first went pro during the 2012-13 campaign, playing for Antibes through 2014-15. In 2015-16, he changed teams to KK Mega Bemax of the Adriatic League, where he further caught the attention of scouts by averaging 14.5 points, 4.6 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 1.7 steals. He entered into the 2016 NBA Draft and was selected 24th overall by the 76ers. Luwawu-Cabarrot joined the Antibes Sharks in 2012 as a junior player when he was 17 years old. The 6-7 wing played in 34 during the 2013-14 season, 30 of which were with the junior Espoirs Antibes squad and four with the parent Antibes team.. He signed a professional contract for the 2014-15 season and provided the Sharks with 7.1 points, 2.5 rebounds and 1.1 steals per game. The Sharks won the 2015 LNB Pro B Leaders Cup. Luwawu-Cabarrot considered making himself available for the 2015 NBA Draft, but decided to stay in Europe. In 2015-16, Luwawu-Cabarrot played with the Mega Leks of Serbia. He played in 28 games in the ABA and averaged 14.6 points, 4.8 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 1.7 steals. He was named to the All-ABA League Team and helped Mega Leks win the Serbian Cup. Luwawu-Cabarrot also played for the French National Team during both the 2014 and 2015 FIBA Europe Under-20 Championship.
