Pistons SMART Express Again Cruising in 2006-07
SMART and Detroit Pistons Offer Rides and Discounted Tickets to Weekend Pistons Games
AUBURN HILLS, Mich. --- The 2006-07 season will mark the fifth anniversary of the Pistons SMART Express, a partnership between the Detroit Pistons and SMART (Suburban Mobility Authority for Regional Transportation) that benefits Pistons fans in the city.
The Pistons SMART Express offers a special bus route from the City of Detroit to The Palace of Auburn Hills for select weekend and holiday home games during the 2006-07 regular season, for a very special rate – under $20 for both the ride AND a ticket to the game.
The cost for the Pistons SMART Express is $2.00 each way, payable in cash or with a SMART Value Pass (other SMART passes or D-DOT passes or transfers are not accepted). The Express arrives at The Palace approximately 90 minutes before tip-off. Upon arrival at The Palace, riders only need to show their SMART transfer ticket with the date, time and Pistons Express number code at the box office and they can purchase a $25 Pistons ticket for a special SMART rate of $15.00 (based on $25 ticket availability). Thirty minutes after the end of the game, the SMART bus will depart from The Palace, returning fans to their stops along the Woodward Avenue route.
The first night of the SMART Express program will be Saturday, November 4, when the Pistons host the Memphis Grizzlies and it will be Kids Opening Night. Saturday nights are also “Hat-urdays” during the Pistons season and the first 5,000 fans at the Palace will receive a special collectible Pistons hat.
“The Pistons SMART Express has come a long way since its
inception in 2001,” said Pistons CEO Tom Wilson. “Each and every year we see more riders and more folks taking advantage of the special ticket offers. The program has really strengthened our relationship with fans in the city. Community-minded partners like SMART are vital in helping us extend the reach of DEEE-TROIT BASKETBALL.”
The Pistons SMART Express will begin at Congress and Woodward Avenus, making five stops as it heads north on Woodward, including Warren Avenue, West Grand Boulevard, Manchester, Six Mile Road, and the State Fair Grounds. To make the service more convenient for fans, parking will be available at the Michigan State Fair.
There are 11 games on the schedule for the Pistons SMART Express:
“The Pistons take an active role in giving back to the community and helping some of their greatest fans,” said Dan Dirks, SMART general manager. “The SMART Pistons Express package gives Detroiters the opportunity for a bus ride and a Pistons ticket for $19. That is a great deal. SMART’s role is connecting people to where they want to go…the Pistons Express is one more avenue for our customers.”
The Pistons and SMART partnership began as part of the Detroit Pistons organization’s increased commitment to the fans in the City of Detroit. Since its introduction, nearly 30,000 Pistons fans have taken the Pistons SMART Express to a game.
