Postgame Quotes - December 4, 2016

DETROIT PISTONS HEAD COACH STAN VAN GUNDY:  (On defense): “We were terrible defensively, I mean terrible. Our offensive numbers are good enough to win, and we just did not put enough into that game. They played harder than we did. They deserve to win, period.”

(On Reggie Jackson): “He scored the ball well. Too many turnovers, but that is probably to be expected.”

(On home effort): “Yeah it is disappointing, but if you look on terms of our defensive effort, I just said to them we have now alternated playing defense and not defending for seven games. We defended against the Clippers, we did not defend against Oklahoma City, we defended against Charlotte, we didn’t defend in Boston, we defended in Atlanta, we didn’t defend tonight. So if we’re going to be an every other night type team that brings a defensive effort every other night, well then we are going to be up and down. We can’t rely on going out and shooting 50% from three point range. We shot 37% tonight. That is certainly good enough. If we can keep doing that we will be fine but we did not bring anything to the table defensively. We did not bring a good enough effort, they deserved to beat us and so we will try to go back in the gym and get better tomorrow and move on.”

DETROIT PISTONS GUARD REGGIE JACKSON: (On performance):  “It (knee) felt good.  It felt pretty good when I was playing.  It’s going to take some time to get acclimated with my teammates again, but it felt good.  I just wished we came out with a win.  I felt like I was a little behind others in game shape and little aspects like that.  I think in defensive coverages and rotations I was a little rusty and then just finding guys a little bit quicker, but offensively I felt pretty good.  I can attack and go downhill.  I trust all the work that I have done with the staff and with my coaches and teammates.  I can’t put any limitations on it, so I just go out there and be myself and play to the best of my ability to find out truly where I’m at.”

(On game): “We were a little down.  I really don’t know what it is.  We came out a little flat.  We let them do everything that they wanted to do offensively.  They got a lot of open threes even though they did not necessarily knock them down at a high rate and then we really let them just attack the paint.  They hurt us tonight.  We really didn’t make them do what we wanted them to do, so it was a tough one, but fortunately we have another one on Tuesday.”

ORLANDO MAGIC HEAD COACH FRANK VOGEL:  (On offense and defense tonight): “I’m proud of our guys on both ends. That team (Detroit) was averaging 118 points their last three games and they were on the road. We held them to 92 points, mostly because of our second-half defense, 37% shooting and 42 or 43 points, against a hot team. We continue to show our defensive identity, be a stingy defensive-minded group and we’re hopefully starting to see the value of the pass on the offensive end. If we pass with good timing, good intent and good delivery, we’re going to shoot the ball better. We have guys who can shoot the ball on this team and we’ve showed that the past couple games.”

(On ball movement): “We’re trying to trust the pass and play for each other. Every time we play the right way we try to highlight it in tape and talk about it every day. Hopefully our guys are starting to see the value in it.”

ORLANDO MAGIC FORWARD SERGE IBAKA: (On improvements this game): “We just changed our mindset. We know we are a defensive team and then on offense we just changed our mindset; tried to play for each other. Moving the ball made games easier.”

(On tonight’s win): “We knew this was going to happen. It’s just about that time. We were just pushing and kept on working, but we believe in ourselves. We can do it.”
